I look at it and think it’s some big parasite like a worm or something. Why mess with the whole “only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate” riff they’ve been using for 30 or so years???

I'm not the only one, apparently, someone says "it looks like floating tripe." IT DOES!!!

It does look like tripe! My friend and I were discussing it at work!

That is CREEPY. This is what I got from it:

Creepy music straight out of the Silent Hill video games plays as a piece of orange fungus floats in the air.

Fungus rotates and moves in a way characteristic of time-lapse photography. Also, it begins to look like a CGI model of a virus.

Quick close-up of the virus as...a woman?

More rotating and rippling on the part of the virus. It now looks like a Dementor in yellow.

Quick cut to another close-up of the virus-woman in the throes of an orgasm. By now it looks like the message is, "I am a sexually transmitted disease and I will SUCK OUT YOUR SOUL, but you will have great orgasms in the process."

Purple splotches begin to coat the virus-cloaked figure. It looks like mold or some hideous disease.

The purple turns into a candy bar called "Flake."

ME: "What the FUCK?"

I think it looks like something that lives in the deep deep seas, so deep that light doesn't reach down there.

And then you see it's a woman and no thank you, I don't really feel like eating a tiny woman encased in chocolate...

I saw it just the other day and wondered W.T.Everliving.F???? And then it turned out to be Flake, and I WTF-ed more.

And then I saw today's big science story (click The Big Picture to see it properly) in the Times, and have realised where they'd got it from.

(Also, have you seen the article about meerkat traditions?)

The Times website has gone to a paid-for version, but if you look at the link in my comment below, you'll at least get a picture of the thing...

Yes, I saw your comment afterwards, but then you had replied before I was finished editing.

What a bizarre creature! (I love watching nature documentaries about deep sea creatures. It's like watching actual aliens)

I saw it in the actual paper version this morning. If you feel like forking out real money for a subscription to the online version, they're at The Times Online - click the 'News' tab at the top and then 'Environment' on the drop-down; you get a sign-up page then, alas...

edited to fix wonky HTML!

They have a lot of international newspapers at the train station too. Maybe I'll swing by later and check... If I'm really really lucky they've got one at the library too, but I find it unlikely that they would have today's already. In a day or two though, I might be able to get a look. I'll have to try and remember this.

I'm not saying what I thought of, but it was something much less appetising than tripe!

Bring back the overflowing bath and ringing telephone!

Eww.
I LOVE chocolate, and this is the first time I've seen an ad for a chocolate bar that made me think "Eww" instead of "Yum". Fire that advertising agency, pronto.

O-kay... you cross a sea slug with a floor mop, spin it in slow motion, stick in some sort of semiconscious escapee from a catwalk, then drown her in chocolate and shove the whole thing into a candy-wrapper?

"Flake..." No, that's beyond flakey, it's downright mental.

Blee. You're not wrong...it looks like the voice over is going to start any moment:

"Drontal tablets for cats..."

I never buy flakes anyway. The crumbliest flaky milkiest chocolate in the world always ends up in the cracks in my keyboard.
