This reminds me of what John Hancock said when the Founding Fathers (that's rebel scum to you redcoats) was warned that people who signed the Declaration of Independence would be at risk for their lives... Hancock said something to the effect that he'd sign big enough for George III to read it without his spectacles. And did. Americans still 'sign their John Hancock,' though the expression's dying out.

And--why not? LOTS of us are boldly going where we didn't expect to get so quickly, ie, middle age...
