Health update – I went for my Echo heart scan today, and they confirmed that I still have arrhythmia, (well, der, I could have told them that.) She says I should have already been prescribed aspirin or wolverin (don’t know how to spell that) so I need to contact the doctor tomorrow as I need to prevent clotting. Also one of my valves is leaking a little, but she thinks that’s because of the arrhythmia– but I will wait for the results before I start to panic

To be perfectly frank, health and writing are more important to me at the moment than any internet wank. However…

I wrote a calm letter to Lambda expressing my disappointment and feelings regarding the Brownworth diatribe and thankfully they agreed to close the comments, (which they did immediately) and will be considering moderation—although I appreciate they don’t have the staff to do so.

Ms Brownworth let off a last salvo, and Ms B, I answered your question over at Teddypig’s journal. I didn’t ban you from my Livejournal, it’s rather paranoid of you to think that—but I don’t allow anonymous comments, that’s all. So your comment would have stopped at source, which is why I didn’t see it.

And finally, I had six long tail tits in the garden today!

And finally, I had six long tail tits in the garden today!

These have been new visitors to my garden this year. I heard unfamiliar cheeping and when I went outside there were around 10 hopping between 2 of my trees and having a good peck at the conifer aphids. They were adorable.

Hope you get your heart thing steady soon.

Aren't they gorgeous? I can never believe quite how pretty they are. When the sun is on the feeders, they really show as bright pink. A very silly colour for a British bird.

and thank you! I hope they can do something for it!

We saw a flock of about twenty in Southgate bay (near Swansea) last year. Very, very cute. I just get goldfinches, which are also very silly-coloured. The first one I saw, I thought it must be Something Furrin wot had escaped, with that red on its face! Then I looked it up.

I have occasional goldfinches here (a flock is a charm, which I think is lovely) but as I live right on the edge of endless field, they have to be pretty hungry to come and eat my food.

Lucky bugger! I can't remember the last time I saw long tailed tits!

They seem to be getting more common here, it was years before I saw them, and then that was just maybe once a year, and this year they've been regular visitors. They love the fat balls all hanging up together in a feeder.

Hanging fat balls up is probably fetishising them. And letting your tits peck at them --- I shudder to think of what someone who needed a thesis topic could do with that.

Actually I posted a comment this morning that I'd have loved to see her reply. Now it will be not possible, but at least I stated my point.

I admit that I never went back to see after my reply to Paul Bens--his agenda with me is purely personal, and I wasn't getting into a pissing match with him in public. If that makes me a coward, then fair enough, but with my health problems, it made sense. With heart issues, I really don't want something stupid like internet wank to kill me off. Imagine the shame!!!!

Mmm, I wouldn't say no to a dose of Wolverine. Even a full course. Oh, wait, you aren't talking about Hugh Jackman are you?

Good luck with it. Definitely don't fret about all this nonsense. Teddypig's LJ today shows the level VB has got to now. Personal abuse = I no longer take someone seriously.

Oh, it's been personal abuse since the first, which is why I've stayed away from it. I've had to deal with another slavering paranoid writer and Ive found the best way to deal with it is to ignore it.

Mmmmm. Wolverine massaging any part of me would be nice.

Warfarin is the generic for coumadin.

I take both warfarin *and* aspirin, as my heart has been arrhythmic for months. They don't work exactly the same, so my doc said it's essential to be on both.

The warfarin must stay within a therapeutic range (2 - 3). Too much is dangerous because, obviously, the blood gets too thin. Too little is ineffective.

The only way to monitor this level (PT INR)is by weekly blood tests. Even when taking the same daily dose, it can fluctuate quite unpredictably (lots of Vitamin K (green, leafy veggies) will effect this), so there's the reason for the frequent tests.

Warfarin. A pain in the ass, I know, honey, but *very* necessary.

((((hugs))))

Ack. Weekly blood tests? Notwithstanding the "can't drive with these eyes" logistics, that's a horrifying thought. However, I doubt the NHS would set that up. We'll see. I'll contact the surgery this morning and take it from there. Just shows how useless my GP is that the heart clinic was shocked I wasn't already on these drugs.

*snickers childishly at subject line*

Long tailed tits are gorgeous little creatures. We get them in winter, in summer they are busy in the fields, and their little voices are always a pleasure to hear. Luckily they are sensible enough to stay out of the way of the cats.

From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
I would die if one of the cats brought a LTT in, hopefully that won't happen as they only eat on the fat ball feeder, but hope not. They are so amusing to watch and almost impossible to photograph!

I question the authenticity of your "long tail tits". Yep, probably silicon implants.

Heh!

I probably shouldn't be watching them through binoculars. Objectifying types other than myself is detestable.

Warfarin

From: [identity profile] amnavarro.livejournal.com
yeah, it's a helpful medication but make sure you know what you can and cannot eat while taking that medicine.

Maybe you can try Atenolol if you are also having a faster heartbeat. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

I think the closest we have to tits are chickadees, much like your tits but black/white/beige. And short-tailed.

Skimmed through the wank briefly, just enough to be notified that I have rage at the GLBT community. Amazing how someone who does not know me at all and never will seems to think she has any insight on how I feel about a community so diverse that some of it agrees with me. I guess Ms B figures she is the community... L'etat, c'est moi. No self-esteem problem there! But I'm not peeved at anybody but VB herself, and perhaps that little one-man jeering section who scoffed at my posts but didn't seem to have any answers to my questions.

If Lambda won't fact-check their op-ed bloggers--editorial opinion is supposed to be based on fact, after all--then a little moderation might be sensible. IF they had a genuinely fair moderator. From the way things have gone, I'd expect them to just let the original poster moderate, which would mean complete censorship in a case like this. I should probably have just ignored it, but letting lies go unchallenged is not something I'm good at, and the hypocrisy of "I do but you shouldn't" was just the last straw.

I'm guessing 'wolverine' is 'warfarin,' and one of my grandmothers had a slightly leaky valve all her life... she checked out at 84 of something else.

Stay well! (and/or get better!)

They have smallish tits--called titmouse? titmice? titmeeces? Gah!--on the east coast. I think mostly in the southeast around Georgia. They used to raid our feeder and keep all other birds away which is why we called them the titmouse maffia.

Titmice are slate blue with black, orange and white markings. Here are some pictures.

And I agree, this bit with the Out article was bad enough, but the crap with VB is beyond the pale.

I agree, it was the lies that got me. And the fact that she's now lying about me in her blog. But - bah, if it makes her happy. As I said on Erecsite, I've encountered far more scary frothers than her, and if thinks she's victimised me by her ill-informed assertions, then she needs to wake up.

Reminds me of Bella in the Twilight books.

Friend of mine was living on warfarin for quite awhile, due to clotting issues. He had to be careful of eating too much food with lots of Vitamin K in them, which would have increased the blood-thinning aspect of the warfarin. These were things like spinach, dark green veggies, and green tea, intriguingly enough.

Date: 2010-08-25 08:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
Well the vitamin K thing won't be a problem! I wouldn't give you tuppence for spinach or green tea!
