Cheer up!

There seems to be a lot of whining around on my flist recently. Don’t know if that’s because of the weather changing, the imminent change of the clocks (REALLY wish they’d leave them alone) but there’s a hell of a lot of doom and gloom. And general moaning.

My blog probably isn’t more chirpy, but things have been hard since July, but I shall endeavour to be more Pollyanna-ish. As much as I loathe Pollyanna and probably would have pushed her into a river had I met her, having to deal with my dad when he gets into a dark mood—often—has taught me to be grateful for what one has. He has a great house, a very good pension, lovely garden, good neighbours, better health than me, had a marriage that last 50 years etc etc…I suppose I can’t see why anyone with all that could be anything but happy. Or content, anyway. I suppose I’m pretty content, even though I have bugger all money, I’m doing what I want to do, with the writing, and spending time with my Dad. I have three cats who love me, so things aren’t that bad, really. Health isn’t everything and I hate to be clichéd, but there’s always someone worse off.

I’ve received my contract from Carina – 17 pages of it! However, I’ve signed it and I’ll bung it in the post on the way home. Most of the contract is iron clad and non negotiable and my ethos is that they have been publishing books for 100 years (as M&B anyway) and they aren’t exactly going to be concerned about one cog in the machine. I don’t understand a couple of the clauses, and if it was for a novel, I’d be worrying more, but with a novella, well, I don’t worry too much about them. Ha. Once I’ve written them anyway. Ask my betas if I worry about the bloody things when I’m writing them!!! I’m looking forward to the process of working with them; I know there’s a couple of issues they have with the plot of Muffled Drum, and they were both issues that I fairly well guessed that someone would have, so I’ll have to work out some way of dealing with them.

Words done today. Characters having a FLAMING – and I mean flaming – row. Ouch.

Also The Doctor says he has over 500 regenerations, that’s a change from original canon isn't it? Wasn’t it 13 or something before?

Yep, it's definitely a change. Originally it was one life and twelve regenerations after that. I don't think that the BBC thought the show would last anything close to long enough to use up all the regenerations, but since we're on the Eleventh Doctor by now and the franchise is still going strong...well. I can see the reason for the alteration.

500 regenerations? Oh WTF? So death is on a par with changing his socks? Way to suck out all the jeopardy! Glad I stopped watching.

*blinks* Why would it suck out all the jeopardy? The show doesn't strike me as being about the Doctor living in peril and worrying about dying... Each regeneration is as much about the viewers saying goodbye to the actor and the permutation of the character as anything else, but I don't think the show loses anything without the idea of there only being twelve regenerations.

Meh, I just get irritated by characters who are essentially unkillable. Might be a personal thing.

Haha, that's the BBC correcting something that was probably a throwaway comment back when they didn't anticipate the show lasting this long, to make sure that they don't have to worry about DW going anywhere anytime soon -g- I approve, it's easier to just change it this way than to come up with some other excuse when regeneration 13 rolled around.

My blog has been extremely content free this month.
Song of the Day, Snippet of the Day, the occasional book & movie update, State of the Sooky.

I've made about 15 posts with actual written content.

I just run out of things to say - I write so slowly, that no-one's really at that same slow level and I have two books a year, so that's (hopefully) two sales a year - not a great deal of content!

My main issue is my missing writing partner.

Otherwise things are pretty good... now that I've figured out what I'm doing for NaNoWriMo.

I hope she's ok - there's must be a good reason.

She does this all too often, unfortunately.

I suspect the reason isn't a good one as she mentioned something about WoW last time we talked.

No matter how stressed I get during the day, I'm usually cheery by the time I get home thanks to either the ponies or my Wednesday evening Young Persons.

I'm looking forward to Muffled Drum. Rows are fun to write because you can make them make up afterwards - eventually.

Yes - looking forward to the making up - there's next to no sex in this, so I think I can spoil myself with a sex scene at this point.

Thank you!

Rusty says he stuck that in for fun, just a random BIG number. Had to laugh at his obligatory Gay Agenda line, too. It was great to have him back, and writing for Eleven. Hopefully he will pen an ep for DW S6.

Our reality has been turned upside down. It feels like everyone we know is loosing/lost 1) a relationship/spouse, 2) house, or 3) job -- or worse, some combination of those. In our case, Husband#1 spent six months looking for a new job and then two months after we found out that the landlord hadn't paid the mortgage. Now we seem caught in the middle of a fight between our landlord and the bank, while we try to save up the money and find a new house. Instead of finishing any of my writing projects, I have spent months dealing with financial paperwork and trying to sell things to raise money and lighten the load of what we will have to move. Wow, probably TMI, but it does seem like everyone I know is in some kind of crisis.
