*bursts into tears*

With my Amazon vouchers, I just treated myself to some books for my Tablet. The Master by Colm Toibin, Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin, Soldiers by Arius de Winter, The Picture of Dorian Grey – Oscar Wilde, Missouri by Christine Wunnicke, Samurai’s Forbidden Love by Silapa Jarun, Abominations by Paul brenner, Sins of the Cities of the Plains by Jack Saul.

If you like Toibin, you might enjoy reading his review-cum-essay in London Review of Books, Among the Flutterers. On the surface it's a review of Quattrocchi's "The Pope Is Not Gay", but underneath is something sharp, witty, painful, devastating, funny, and ultimately read-worthy.

My wifey cackled when she read it (in a very good German translation in Lettre.) Which is always a good sign.

Oh ye gods, "The Master" is duller than dishwater. Get "The Story of the Night" (had me in tears for days), but the Master is so cerebral it's like Brain in the Pinky and the Brain, minus the fun.
