Lots of various bits of news:

1.  LAST GASP is now available in PRINT! HURRAH! With a spivvy new cover, too. Yes, it's a little bit expensive, but it's nearly FIVE HUNDRED pages and has four fabulous stories in it. Well worth it. And look – PRETTEH!!

3. Editing of Muffled drum goes well, I agree with much of what the editor says and I'm learning – that's the good thing about a decent editor, you do tend to LEARN as you go—which makes the writing better next time (I hope) – learning about Filter Words and how many of them can be dumped and OMG I use a lot of them. (she defines them as:

Filter words are words such as felt, thought, decided, wondered, remembered, knew, realized, figured, assumed, worked out, saw, watched, looked, and heard. These are all words which tell the reader information rather than showing it (ie. giving them the impression that they’re discovering it for themselves).

Cripes. Next I'll be guilty of "As you know, Bob," dialogue… :)

4. Fable—I hate to say it—is piss easy. Zero Punctuation did say this in the review, but he's right. The magic is practically pointless, and very difficult to use in the heat of a battle, because you've got to press SHIFT, then using the mouse, move the spell you want to the fore, then hit attack – all the time being whacked to death by whatever monster is attacking you, so it's easier just to keep bashing away with whatever weapon you've got. I breezed through the Arena quest without even losing a life (and if you know how rubbish I am at fighting, this should make it clear just how easy it is) and chose not to kill Whisper, although I was tempted…I'll do the evil path next time I play.

5. The illustrator who is doing the cover of Mere Mortals got in touch and I outlined the general idea I had, which I hope he can do something with. Here's his website, talk about TALENT. It's just not fair, when I can't even do stick figures well. I'm excited to see what he comes up with – and I am looking forward to the Carina cover of Muffled Drum, too. Let's hope there's frogging.
