Saw this the other night, and liked it . Portman—who I've always thought a lot of—was astounding, and the camera trickery regarding her dancing/not dancing was superbly done.  But I have to say it was a bit obvious…the way she went from wearing white and pink and then grey, then black.

I adored the Black Swan dancing section where she pirouetted and the arms turned to actual wings. WHY don't they dance with proper wings? they look amazing.Much better than all the silly arm waving.

I'm also really enjoying Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (despite there being no Spartacus.) The plot is plotty and well written, the themes thought provoking, the performances Bafta worth…..

Oh who am I kidding?

It's for THIS! (click for larger)

Is this a sequel to blood and sand? With m/m action?

It's a prequel - six episodes only - I believe because the Spartacus actor has had a cancer scare and they wanted to keep the franchise going. And yes, m/m action all over the place - Barka has an earlier man (as you can see) and much of the story is how Battista got to bewho he is, and Crixus and his rising through the ranks.

Well worth watching!

I am enjoying GOtA, too, and am already sad we have only 3 more eps to go. I just wish they'd work it in for Crixus to get his hair cut to reveal his full hotness- thought for a moment this week it was going to happen, but, sadly, no. I am liking Gannicus more as they develop his character (physically, though I can admire his attributes, he doesn't do it for me). However, I cannot abide Barca, which lessened the impact of what happened to Auctus (???) who had such little screen time I didn't much care about him.

I exactly mirror your impressions of Auctus(?) - he wasn't memorable enough, and i only kind of realised he must have been Barca's hottie when Barca started creating when they were fighting. six eps is not enough to build a foundation.

I don't get Hairy Crixus - they'd established with Spartacus that they shaved them right from the beginning.

but hey - listen to me expecting historical accuracy!!!! I mean gladiators didn't fight to the death every time for god's sake.they were hugely valuable commodoties - and if they did- every week, there would be none left.

The wings bit blew me away, too, and was probably my favourite moment in the entire film. It was so intensely beautiful and seamless!

*gets distracted by all the manly hotness*
