I love gaming. You know this. What I HATE is PC gaming. This is annoying because most of the sort of games I like are on the PC and not consoles. E.g most of the best point and click games are on PC and RPG – now I'm getting into them – are more likely to be found on PC than consoles. And I love my Playstation. Particularly my PS2 which allows to me play some of the first games on PS1 that I ever owned.

Console games I can sit away from the TV in a comfy chair and relax and everything is at my fingertips. PC games I have to crouch over the keyboard like Fagin trying to remember the bazillion commands for what seems like every single letter on the keyboard.

But—I've been lured into the dark realms of "leave your life at the door" games , the RPG (I have restrained myself from getting involved in MMORPGS) which are mostly on PC -  and I find that, with careful playing, I'm not quite as sucky at them as I thought I might be. I have found that I need to take notes more, because the ingame quest journals aren't as helpful as they might be, and if I haven't played Oblivion for a week or so, I forget where I'm up to and what I am supposed to be doing) but I pretty much enjoy the travelling around, talking to people and finding useless shit to get information.

BUT!!!!!!!  Three games now—in a row--have gone flopbot on me rendering me incapable of continuing—Thief and Thief the Metal Age both won't load from the save—and now FABLE, The Lost Chapters (which I was really enjoying) has a major and well known glitch.  Apparently, if you cover up a murder (which I wanted to do, because I wanted to marry the murderer and get a great sword) sometimes all the teleport gates stop working—and there's one area—Hook Coast—where you can ONLY  teleport in or out of. And once you are there, you can't get out. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And of course, the only save I have is back when I was a rookie hero and just the thought of repeating all the crap I've done to get where I am now (only to find the same thing happening, possibly) makes me scream with frustration.

Oh and petrol? £6.36 a gallon today. Convert that into dollars…

On the final edit for Mere Mortals… and this sentence jumped out at me:

I was led away, arm in arm again with Middleton, and with Graham taking up the rear,

Any other genre, I'd leave it as is, but I think it needs to be changed…

$10.35 a gallon - Holy Hell.

I love some of the old PC games that didn't even have graphics, like Zork. I have a Wii and can't stand playing anything other than boxing on it. I miss my Sega and ToeJam and Earl. Probably a good thing I am not into my Wii and that my laptop isn't good for gaming - I'd never get anything done.

i admit a love of the old school games like the text version of the Hobbit. "Thorin sits down and starts singing about gold." LOL. That's playable online and i still can't do it.

I remember the offers you used to get "spend £20 on petrol and get this free gift" and I used to curse that my tank wasn't bigger because (only a few years back, about four?) my car took £17 and no more - now... I don't like to think about how much a full tank costs. £40? more?

Well the last time I filled up a couple of weeks ago it took nearly £75 for a 60 litre tank. I remember free gifts too- we still have a huge selection of glasses in the cupboard- and Green Shield stamps!

I don't play those games, but you got my interest piqued with covering up a murder so you can marry the murderer. Any game that has a strategy like that sounds intriguing.

As for gas prices: we hit $4/gallon here in SF, which is usually among the highest prices in the US. Luckily my office is 4 miles from home and I don't work every day. I walk to most of the shops or stop on the way home from work. Otherwise I couldn't afford it!

four dollars?!!!? *moves*

it's an interesting game, i understand that dragon age does it better, but basically you can choose in Fable to do Good or Bad. e.g. find a treasure and return to its owner or keep it for oneself. I've not been following any particular good or evil path, just been doing what suits me at the time!!

Flopbot! I have missed that.

Beer is £22.80 a gallon. After that, I'm not allowed to drive a car.

In my glass cupboard I have three petrol station free gift glasses that my mum acquired in the 70's. She took FAR too much care of them for my liking, but even after 7 years in my tender care, they are still intact. You don't get free gifts like that any more.

I was led away, arm in arm again with Middleton, and with Graham taking up the rear,

Yes, a rewrite would be prudent. Unless you need a dash of comic relief...

Petrol>>> £1.29/L at Sainsbury's garage the other day. It's costing £90 now to fill up now. I've told Dave he needs to pee in the tank!
