BUT you've got to love the Kindle for a pretty decent text to speech programme that doesn't sound like Stephen Hawking

and

No conversion of PDFs necessary. It doesn't read PDFs very well and nearly all of the books I have for review are in PDF format. So I'd been grubbing around the net finding conversion programmes but they were either not free, or were only free for a certain time or DIDN'T DO WHAT THEY SAID ON THE TIN or were written by Sheldon Cooper with no thought for Cheesecake Waitresses.

Then I found if you email a pdf to your Kindle it converts it!  wah hey! Did a woman design this? *runs*

i know - i'm ashamed of myself for being so enthusiastic--but I am a gadget whore, I would have had a kindle and an ipad if I was still working, but not being able to afford these things makes me sad. but yes, a good gadget is a good gadget.

I use Calibre E-book manager to convert. Free down load.

If you flip from portrait to landscape, it works pretty well too.

depends on the layout and the text of the pdf, some are ok some aren't. the conversion makes it perfect and with adjustable text.

Ooh that's a great tip! I use mine mainly to read historic texts off google books and archive.org and I've resorted to reading in landscape view which isn't ideal. I must give this a go.

I tried Calibre but it took forever and I gave up on it.
