I've been pondering whether there's an antagonist in my current novella, and I think for both the main characters, bearing in mind this is more of a friendship story than a romance, it's the fear of finding something special that really makes a difference in their life, only for it to be snatched away. And overcoming that isn't about finding each other. It's about finding the ---spoiler--- and what that teaches them -- both about themselves and about other people.
