Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!

But I have an very rare one, so that's some consolation.

No, don't go feeling sorry for me, I was hugely disorganised, and like much of my life, was a catalogue of bad decisions! I had entirely forgotten that I had – for some bizarro reason known only to myself a few months ago (probably excitement) – pre-order Dance With Dragons and it wasn't until I got the email from Amazon yesterday saying that it had been dispatched that I was even aware of it. However the email also said that the "estimated" date of arrival was 13th. Which means in reality "god knows when"

I was planning to drive the 10 miles to Caister, try there, and if no luck, go into WH Smith in Yarmouth.  But as I already had a book coming, I thought it would be stupid to buy another one under the financial circumstances!  I DID call in at the other Tescos in Stalham, but they are completely crap and didn't have it—which was probably just as well.

So, I can manage for a few days. But I'll be careful what I read on the net—I had enough spoilers for the Potter Books due to morons posting things without a cut. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow as planned and I can pick it up on Thursday. Can't wait!

BUT REALLY, AMAZON???? What's the fucking point in having a pre-order system if you can't bloody get the books to the doorsteps on the day?  This isn't the first time I've asked this either, as I got burned with the last Potter book, too. You'd think I'd have learned. But NO!

I don't understand that. Amazon used to be better. Both goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix [pause to perform the usual gesture of bemused contempt] arrived first post on the day of release. And in those days Amazon was limping along from financial crisis to financial crisis. Maybe being in the black has made them blasé?

Yeah, I've been able to get books and DVDs delivered on day of publication in the past, but then it suddenly stopped happening and I stopped trusting them for anything I really want to have on the day it comes out.

I can remember Order of the Phoenix showing up before 8 in the morning - on a Saturday. I can't get my normal post for 8 o'clock during the week, but I got that!

They've stopped using Royal Mail, which makes a difference. But I think they are just generally less helpful than they used to be.

So infuriating though with a really BIG release like this.

Of course, they've never been the same since they started using that total shower of bastards, Home Delivery Network. Good God, but I hate that company!

I guess Amazon UK sucks, because Amazon US always manages to get shipments delivered on release day, sometimes even before release day! But then I've got an Amazon Prime account which includes 2-day shipping for everything. It might make a difference if you don't have Amazon Prime.

I had the book pre-ordered on my Nook. Barnes and Noble failed on that score, too, as it was there, but there was no way to download. B & N finally got that straightened out once their customer service opened... heh.

I didn't notice it wasn't available at the midnight release. I was in bed already. But many did, and many were angry. There's a slew of complaints on the Nook review site. Sometime Tuesday I tried to peek at the table of contents and noticed I couldn't download. Had to call to figure it out. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I pre-ordered on the Nook. Others were able to buy it outright at midnight, no problem, so the snafu was only for those who wanted it set up in advance with the pre-order. B & N has kinks to work out, I guess.

I'm 342 pages into ASoS. Still, I wanted ADwD on hand, because I do skip around, and I wanted to see who the PoVs are.
Again, I see a whole new cast of characters I've never met. LOL.
What else is new?

Enjoy, I know you have it now. :-)
