I don't like the title.  It's a shame because I liked all the others.  I mean they were intriguing, and we spent ages wondering what they meant.  To use such  convoluted archaic pretentious words in the last book's title is annoying.  OK so [livejournal.com profile] venivincere found out the true meanings of Hallows, but how many kids - or even parents of the average kid has the full OED?  Little Johnny is going to ask Mummy

"What's a Deathly Hallow mean, mummy?" and mummy is going to run for the dictionary (if she has one) like the first one to hand I have - the Compact Oxford.

"Deathly" - suggesting death.

"Hallows" not listed.

Mummy founders and says it's probably about a dangerous Hallowe'en (which, let's face it, is probably what it IS going to be about) which is completely erreneous as to meaning. Hallowe'en AIN'T Hallows. It's my birfday.  Anyway, we'll see soon enough.  But I don't like it..  But who cares about my opinion?  JKR is already buying her next island!!

I disagree. Not about the title being lame (IMO, they were all lame) but about Rowling's use of archaic words. And I seem to recall you defending your right to use big words in fan fiction. Let the reader consult a dictionary. He or she will learn something and there's no bad there, right?

*HUG* <-- that was for your post yesterday. I'm so sorry, kiddo. I've been thinking about you.

i meant to add a rider to smirk at me calling someone else pretentious.

Thanks hun. It's a little less raw today, Monday night was the worst shock, now I'm just coping a little better.

*hug*

I think I'm just an extreme fandom optimist, looking at some of the reaction today! But then I tend to get what I'm looking for out of the HP books, which is always lucky.

Nod nod. I saw that you really loved HBP, and that's probably my problem, I hated it so much I'm probably still reeling from the bitterness and loathing!

Won't stop me buying seven though. I'm a completist... *mutters*

Well, you know my life philosophy: aim low and you'll never be disappointed.

I wonder if a lot of the hate is because people were expecting so much of it. I was expecting semi-childish entertainment and maybe a bit of a bloodbath; it helped that my semi-OTP came true and there were zombies (plus some pretty funny insight about teenage relationships with the Ron/Lavender), but I expected a cheesy, funny book and got it.

Do you know? I read that Michel Faber with the money gained with "Under the skin" has bought an old train station in Scotland. Rawlings an island? and you? if you can choose, what do you want to move when you will be famous?

Well, I like the new title. I like archaic words and it appeals to my gothic taste. Guess I'm easy like that. *g*

Oh, and... I saw your previous post. I'm really, really sorry. I can relate. I, um, wanted to send you an email but I was afraid it might feel intrusive. *hugs tight*

Hee, I think it helps that I'm not caring so much with this one. Sure it sounds silly, but I'm sure the book will end silly too :)

Speaking of which, did you see the delicious Lucius/Severus at one of the holiday comms? It's pure sex!

I don't like it all that much either. It just sounds awkward to me. ://

About your post yesterday...

I cried. *cuddles* If it's any consolation, I shall pray for her and you. ♥

Wait, wait - Hallows? Our newspaper here (Germany) said 'Hollows'. And translated that with "Heilige", which would be "Saints". *facepalm*
