Well - WOW.

I have only one thing to say.

"SPARTANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Just brilliant.  Fabulously stylised mayhem. I'm quite in love with Leonidas, plus the beautiful son.  Xerxes was incredible, and the fight scenes just amazing.  I can't wait for the DVD.  And SO MANY LOVELY ABS.

But of course, I only watched it for historical interest. *cough*

But there were funny moments that hit me hard from time to time.  When Leonidas started to climb the mountain to get to the priests I whispered to Kerry "Contender, you will start on my first whistle"

The Oliphaunts were just too LOTR!  I read on a historians site that there were no elephants, but hey, who cares. There were ABS!  It also reminded me of the battle scene on Hoth.  OMG I'm such a bloody geek.

I wasn't sure what the Elephant man was doing there, either.  And when did Faramir get hot?

And GIP. just because.  I'm quite sure I have enough Geeks on my list to get this.  Thank you to Henri who gave me the idea.

Finally - I was going to have a damned good rant about a post on Romancing the Blog about how people can't read Romance books with adultery in them, but [livejournal.com profile] gehayi has done it far far better than I could ever do. I'd just end up getting cross.

YAY!!
I love and adore the 300 with an unseemly passion. YES YES YES to everything you said. In addition to the Oliphaunts, wasn't Ephialtes totally screaming GOLLUM to you too? I roffled.

(love the book 7/Buffy icon too, btw. heeee!)

I was hopeless, I didn't catch anyone's name, but yes, Gollum too, specially when L said "it's been following us since we left", that was SUCH a Gollum moment.

I was lucky, as it wasn't my week to choose the film and I was threatened with Turtles, I Love Candy AND Mr Bean until Kerry took pity on me and let me have my own way!

It is times like these that I hate the fact that Glastonbury has no cinema ;__; .

As for Romance readers... I can't help but laugh. It is just like the yaoi fandom (I belong to both) - they tend to take themselves (and their genre) entirely too seriously sometimes... yaoi fandom being marginally worse.

the beautiful son

Oh god yes. I would.

I want to know how they got the elephants and that rhino across the Hellespont. And why Dilios was leading the army at Plataea when I'm pretty sure he killed himself. And why the Spartans were fighting in nappies and cloaks.

But. I loved it nonetheless, despite its many little flaws. And its LOTR tips-of-the-hat (gollum, oliphaunts, Boromir-like deaths at the end).

Definitely a DVD purchase. =D
