You may have already realised that I'm a hopeless bookworm. When I'm not glued to the computer, I'm reading. I have a week off starting in 2 and a half hours and I have the following books to read: (happily overdosing on the gay)

The Charioteer - Mary Renault
Firelands - Michael Jensen
Frontiers - Michael Jensen
Master of Seacliffe - Max Pierce (this has the cutest cover ever- it's very dark and green, and has a Sims person on it but he can hardly be made out,but it had a hole punched through the front cover to a candle - it really appeals to the kid in me.)
a Dangerous Man- Anne Brooke
something complicated by Iain M Banks that I won't understand. (not gay)

I've been trying to get hold of a copy of Gaywyck and Vadriel Vail for many months now - the cheapest copy on amazon.co.uk is £23!!!! (cheaper than it was, as a copy was on there recently for £150) and I rather resent having to pay rip-off prices for a second hand book if the author isn't getting the royalties.

(Vincent Virga for those of you who may not of heard of him, is the Granddaddy of the Gay Regency, possibly the inventor of it? Gaywyck was written in the 1980's and if there was anyone writing Gay Regency before VV, I'd be interested to know about it. I discovered him in 2003, shortly before I'd finished Standish, and was stunned (and very happy) to learn that there was more gay regency out there. I was stupid though, because his books were still available back then - if I'd known they were going to be gold dust I'd have bought a load of them. I didn't buy one because I didn't want to be influenced for Standish - just reading the blurb made me realise that the themes were similar - although Master/Tutor is an acceptable Regency theme.)

Anyway - if anyone has any of his books that they want to sell, or knows where I can get one for a reasonable sum, please let me know!

I feel as rough as old guts right now, had a very stressful mornng in Norwich with my Dad who's Alzheimers has got to the stage where he can't remember where he left things like me (outside a pub with a fit of the vapours) and the car. So I'm going to coast through to end of play today and then enjoy my holiday.

I am fairly sure there's an important deadline tomorrow on an anthology or two, so I'd better bloody write something. arugh! * Runs to Erotica Readers to check deadlines.....*

Why isn't there a books category?

have you checked on amazon.com (gaywyck (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1555835848/ref=sr_1_olp_12/002-5177039-1391202?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175266490&sr=8-12); vadriel vail (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/155583583X/ref=sr_1_olp_11/002-5177039-1391202?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175266490&sr=8-11))? they're actually a lot cheaper for you, once you do the conversion. however, the shipping charges are bound to be brutal.

good luck!

oh, and the michael jensen books, i liked a lot.

I have a spare copy of Gaywyck (The GMP version) which I bought years ago for a fiver - I will be happy to pass it to you. I have no idea why I ended up with two copies since I didn't love it that much. I suspect it has something to do with the Alyson cover being so cheesie I needed to own it XD.

There are cheaper copies on Amazon US, although by the time you've paid the overseas postage they won't be all that cheap. (International shipping is $10.)

I will stroll down to Bookbuyers this afternoon and see what they have to offer. Want to give me a shopping list of anything else you might like? It's generally around half of cover price, minimum $2, plus tax, on paperbacks. You'll still have to pay overseas shipping, but only at cost.

Sorry - my brain is overdosed on lemsip. I also wanted to say that it is currently in a box heading to a charity shop since none of my friends wanted it and I am not organized enough to actually sell books. I like giving books away though so it is yours for free So if you want it just let me know.

The Charioteer was (is) my guardian angel throughout my writing of GF. :)

I'll send you my copy of Vadriel Vale, but I need to finish it. I read through the first five chapters and gave up on the darn thing. The female lead romantic character pissed me off.

Have you tried abebooks.com? The advanced search lets you choose UK-only if you want to narrow your options, or worldwide. They have Gaywyck for £15 in the UK, and Vadriel for £6 plus postage from the US.

(I know other posters have offered, I've just found them a useful alternative to amazon in the past, but postage can be expensive, or just seems so beside amazon.)

The "something complicated" by Iain Banks...is that the title of the book or was that The Wasp Factory?

If you see ANY gay research books, about historical times, I'd be very grateful. Can't think of names off the top of my head, but anything at all.

I'd heard they weren't great, but I'd like to say I've read as many as I can get my mitts on!

Thank you sweetie, you are wonderful.

Hrm, not one I've read by him. The two sci-fi books I have read by him are pretty good, though.

If you want an interesting book by him that makes you go "bzuh?" in the end, I would recommend The Wasp Factory. It's...I can't particularly say it's not gay, but it's not focused on relationships, and it's definitely a head trip. (Just don't research it, it'll probably give the end away, and you need to be surprised.)

How nice of you!! What can I do in return? That's one I'd been interested in because it's the same time period as Transgressions!
