EAA rant part II
Apr. 16th, 2007 07:42 pmDear Author.
It's very simple. There are instructions. About four little questions. It's not rocket science. I'm not getting paid for this labour of love - so when you say "You can find all other information on my blog/website whatever" you know what? I'm not going to go and look for them.
So there.
If you can't follow these instructions what hope have you got for following something like this?
My thoughts go out for everyone who may have been affected by the 19th School shooting in 10 years in America. Utterly mad. Guys. Get rid of the guns.

Date: 2007-04-16 07:22 pm (UTC)I agree. In this country, that makes me a communist, or worse, a liberal. Sometimes it feels like we're still living in the old west.

Date: 2007-04-16 07:35 pm (UTC)Seriously. I'm so tired of hearing about how Americans have the right to protect themselves and their property. You want protection, get an alarm. And a dog. People have the right not to get fucking SHOT.

Date: 2007-04-17 04:42 am (UTC)And yeah, I remember the days when it was a big deal for a kid to have a switchblade at school.
I don't think the basic culture changed *that* much.
I think somebody's gettin' rich selling cheap guns.
Not to mention the fact that gangstas are all such rotten shots.
(Yep, there's studies on it.) Cops practice. They mostly get very good scores on aim in emergencies. Gangbangers generally don't practice, and it turns out they're lousy shots, more likely to hit bystanders. Maybe that's the real reason they're all so fond of autos and semi-autos, where aim is pretty meaningless.

Date: 2007-04-17 04:25 pm (UTC)I am a liberal--which means, btw, that I believe in public schools, separation of church and state, national healthcare, taxing the rich more stringently as opposed to cutting them all the breaks, and giving a damn about leaving a planet for the next generations. It doesn't mean I think an old person in a scary neighborhood shouldn't be able to own a gun--it means I think it's better to try to salvage the neighborhood so a gun isn't needed. And it doesn't mean it's OK for the government to run up a gigundous debut to drown our great-grandchildren, like the so-called "conservatives" who spend as though it's not coming out of their pockets. (Oh, wait--it isn't, is it?)
These killings are partly too-available guns, yeah--but only partly. There was a similiar massacre in Canada a few years back--a woman-hating asshole walked into a classroom, ordered all the men out (and the wusses left) then killed all the women. Canada has really strong gun laws--but anyone who's bloody-minded enough can get hold of a gun. I put some of the blame on these goddamned massacre-minded videogames that let would-be assassins rehearse their crimes and reduce human beings to the status of targets. At the deepest level, I think it's catastrophic overpopulation. When the number of inhabitants overloads the system, there's a jump in violence and antisocial behavior. That's seen in virtually all mammals, and I don't think humans are all that superior.
