So much random
Jun. 9th, 2007 11:14 pmInterestingly, after me saying that Playstation games, however grisly and shocking, generally do well and get past the censors, there's a furore from the good denizens of Manchester because Sony have used (shock!) Manchester Cathedral in their latest shoot 'em up"Resistance: Fall of Man"
Oh for goodness sake, people, games have featured churches and cathedrals since the beginning of games. Well ok, not the BEGINNING of games. There's wasn't Pong in St Patricks or anything, but I've fought my way through many churches, Notre Dame for for one example. The people are complaining that it's "insensitive" because Manchester has such a terrible gun culture and people have been killed in Manchester.
Probably not humans infected with an alien virus, I'll warrant. IT'S FANTASY PEOPLE!!! And jeez - what about all the myriad games set in NY or London?
What do we think of the "deluxe" (although WHY is it called that?) cover of The 7th Book? Is it Harry Potter and the Dragon Riders of Pern? Harry Paragon? Is there actually, anywhere in the books, ANYWHERE that even hints at dragon domestication, because yanno I don't think there is. So - either 1) this is an animagus of someone or 2) Harry can control dragons (although that's bloody unlikely, as he didn't have much luck in GOF) OR 3) It's Norbert. Any other theories?
I've suddenly reaslised that OotP will be the last HP film I go to the theatre to see - I have no interest in seeing HBP on the cinema, it has no plot that interests me in the slightest. Do I want to see teenagers snogging? er. No.
Doctor Who was FABULOUS Amazing. Just gets better and better. I loved the cleverness of it, and that even at the end the Doctor doesnt understand what Sparrow is on about. The dvd Easter Egg was a great idea and the end really creeped me out - as it was meant to do! Weeping Angels! eek!! The story was from a short story in a Doctor Who annual, apparantly, only changed a bit. Certainly that one goes to the top of my list - or high up anyway.. oh and best line is something like "they kill you by moving you back in time and letting you live yourself to death." Brilliant.
Well worth downloading the Confidential too (they ALWAYS are) but particularly this week as it was hosted by Tennant.
Jack back next week! SQUEE!!!
I've just noticed that my Severus and Lucius have webbed toes. Interesting. I think they must be Turkish Van crosses. Explains their water fetish, and looking at pictures on Van cross pages, the markings are almost identical.
I've done no writing today - I've been playing "Splinter Cell Double Agent" which
rwday sent me for Christmas, and it ROCKS. God I love stealth games.

Yeah, that's the one I just don't see as a movie at all.

Date: 2007-06-10 08:10 am (UTC)I think my main problem with the canon errors is that the books should be edited by real hard core anorak fans, people who are going to notice the slightest wavering from previous mantra, but either they are edited by people who don't have retentive memories about previous books, or JKR refuses to accept any editing. Either way, it's not good.
But it's not just that, it's the idiot plots too, the whole cave thing onwards makes so little sense in its attempt to make it exciting - it's the lack of magic limitations that annoys me - I'm always thinking "why don't you just use magic?" when they do things the long way round, because JKR hasn't said that magic is limited or anything.
oh dear - didn't want to go on ... sorry about that.

Date: 2007-06-10 08:01 am (UTC)Now I'd LIKE to slash him with David (Solid) Snake of course... Shame we can't get them both in the same game....
Re: Splinter Cell ...
Date: 2007-06-10 11:14 am (UTC)I think SSnake and Sam would try to out-bitch each other all the time. Could be fun. Two snarling guys cracking acidic jokes all the time. :) (Trouble is, I haven't finished Double Agent yet, and have yet to make much progress in Double Agent).
What was fantastic, though, was Gears of War. If you play coperative, you have Markus and Dom (yes, tons of jokes about Dom's name - one achievement is called "Dom curious", another "I can't quit you Dom") and the game starts with Dom rescuing Markus from prison. Both guys are built like heavyweight champions (plus genetic modification), and there's a lot of slash vibes between them. And yesterday we finished it and I killed General Raam. (or RAAM, as he's spelled). It's fantastic if you like some tactical sweetness in your shooters, and it has attitude. It's really, really good. :) (/fan rant)
Re: Splinter Cell ...
Date: 2007-06-10 02:51 pm (UTC)My controller got wet yesterday and now it won't work. WAH!!!!!!
And yes, can you imagine Snake/Sam trying to work out who's going to top? bwahahahah!
Re: Splinter Cell ...
Date: 2007-06-10 03:41 pm (UTC)You should get one - and then log into XboX "live" and we could play it over the net in co-op mode. It's fantastic. You'd need a headset, of course, but it's well worth it. I couldn't rave enough about that game - it should be right up your street. And then we write Dom/Markus porn?
Can you imagine what happens when Snake calls Sam "old man"? He's touchy as is about that. *sniggers*. Personally, I'd think Sam would garotte him and drag him backwards to a place where he can shag the guy. :)
Re: Splinter Cell ...

I don't have Broadband, that's a pain in the arse. If I did, we could play Splinter Cell in online!!
And Snake would have a cheek, as he's supposed to be all old in Sons of the Patriots. He's going to kill him off... *sobs*
Gah. Now I really want to write Sam.Snake garroting sex.

Ack! Any chance you can get it?

He didn't look particularly old in the one I played (Snake Eater? Gah. No idea. The one where I never found the way out of the jungle)

It's the right kind of weather outside... But yeah. *fans self* These guys would be sexy as hell together.
Re: Splinter Cell ...
Date: 2007-06-10 04:19 pm (UTC)HEe hee - I've never got out of the Jungle either! I can't kill one of the Bosses - the one in the trees - it's TOO HARD. The Fear? The Pain? one of those.
Evidently something goes wrong with his cloining, he's only about six months older in the next game, ironic as it's taken 2 years since the last game... but he's old, and grey..
Re: Splinter Cell ...
Date: 2007-06-10 04:32 pm (UTC)I need to revisit MGS. Memory is shady, but yes, I remember frantically runnign around and being very frustrated (which I don't like). At least in GoW co-op, you can let the more experienced gamer do the hard stuff and you keep that guy covered. :)
