Oct. 9th, 2007 10:56 amI watched Interview with the Vampire last night. I'd only ever seen the film once before, when it first came out and my gaydar was definitely off back then- but bwuh? How did I miss the homoerotic? I haven't read the book, and really don't want to buy it so I'm going to order it from the library.
Banderas comes a millimetre from kissing Pitt. *sigh*
REMAKE PLEASE! (same actors would be good, too) If Banderas had made that film now, he'd be laughed off the screen but OMG ... I was convinced back then, and was convinced last night too. THE HOTNESS!!
I also have to say - Kirsten Dunst? Wow - what a performance!
And also - how is it that everyone had a good hair day except Brad?
Managed my 1000 words yesterday. Go me. 1022 to be precise.
And I'd just like to say, work colleague, that noisy eaters should be killed. In inventive ways.

I have wondered how they managed to make Brad Pitt unattractive in that film. That's something of a feat. His hair was all wrong.

Her father overheard and said "Yes, baby. you're right. Claudia has two daddies."
(as for Banderas? He totally sold it. He came off insanely sexy.)
Thing is, it doesn't need a remake. The homoerotica is all subtext, barely, sub, but still nothing explicit. It was enough to profoundly disturb me for about 10 years (I was repressing). It becomes text in _The Vampire Lestat_ when Lestat moves to Paris with his boyfriend.

Date: 2007-10-09 07:26 pm (UTC)I've always thought it was interesting that she makes the vampires such sensuous creatures that many people who read the books think they are having sexual intercourse. However, various passages in the books show that they cannot function as humans in that way, just as they can't eat food or drink anything other than blood. But their form of "sex" comes in exchanging blood with one another, and those scenes are usually between male vampires, and are very erotic and sexual.
Rice isn't a particularly good writer, but she was creative. My favorite book of hers is "Cry to Heaven," which is a historical novel about castrati in 18th century Italy. It's nicely researched, and unlike the vampires, the castrati do have sex, usually with men.

Date: 2007-10-10 04:42 am (UTC)It's weird when you see movies with actors when they were kids practically performing better than they do now. Anna Paquin was awesome in The Piano and then seemed to get unremarkable as she grew up. How does that work? LOL.
