I was prepared to hate this new version from the Trailer which made it look like it was stuffed with sex, but I don't hate it. If only for the fact that it's not much more than a re-make almost take for take of the Merchant Ivory version....  I mean why bugger around with perfection?

However they made Mr Beebe just the slightest bit homosexual in the pond scene which pleased me mightily.

ETA:  does someone want to explain  the ending to me?  World war One?  George DEAD??? what the EFF?

Oh, is that on tonight? I'm sorry I missed it -- although I adore the Merchant Ivory version so I'm not sure how I felt about it to begin with.

I'm just absolutely shocked that they're planning to remake Brideshead Revisited. Speaking of messing around with perfection...

Oh, I know!! I don't understand it at all. It simply isn't Brideshead without Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. It *isn't*.

I missed it - glad I did, now that I know the WWI bit. In my copy of the book there is a thing written - I guess by Forster - in 1958 where he discusses what happened next. George survived both World Wars. Grr...

I wish I'd seen the Mr beebe bit though - he does rather like George, doesn't he?

Oh that's infuriating - I didn't know that. How dare they go against the canon... *frowns and considers writing to ITV....*

And the nice thing was that I read the book as I was watching it and they stuck almost exactly to the text in the pond scene, but it was Mark Williams'(!) interpretation of how he reacted to "oh no, I don't think I will.." which set my gaydar off!

:)

There's some bit in the book where George makes it plain he likes Lucy and Mr Beebe loses all interest him. *g*

I like the bit in 'where Angels Fear to Tread' where Phillip goes to the opera.
