Mmmmm. Chocolates!
Jan. 13th, 2008 09:48 pmOh - And money. Two words that will always go straight to the cockles of my greedy heart. Received a nice fat cheque from PD Publishing this morning, so it seems that after over a year, Standish is still selling as well as ever. If only I could get a few books out, I might be able to consider giving up work!
They also included a load of sweets, which is really nice of them! Hersheys and Reeces and Cadburys ..... mmmm...
Haven't posted much recently because I've been recuperating. Ruddy cold still hanging on. Yesterday I had a bath to warm up about 1pm, fell asleep briefly in the bath and decided to go and have a nap and conked out until six pm! This is not like me. I'm just tired all the time and I'm tired of it. I could easily go to bed right now.
And I've just found this - Here Be Dragons. A challenge to read 3-5 books with Dragons in them by June 2008 - and lookie who's at the top of the list? Only our very own
rwday!
And
gehayi has just proved without a shadow of a doubt that the entire saga of Harry Potter could never have actually happened, using JKR's own rules of her own universe. But you'll have to wait until Chapter 17 of the Deathly Hallows spork to find out!
And OMG. Swordspoint. I don't know why it's taken me so long to pick up this book. Perhaps it was because I thought it was a fantasy and was going to be innundated with elves and fairies or something instead of a Medici-like alternative "Earth" or wherever we are. I'm just loving it. LOVING IT. Richard and Alec have compeltely stolen my heart without me even being aware of it. They are beautifully written and are both very masculine -neither are at all able to TALK to each other and love each other without being able to say why, even to themselves. I adore Richard's honour, his darkness, his utter ruthlessness, his fatalism and the way he lives on the edge of a fight, almost constantly. Alec I just adore although he needs a slap. They both need a slap. I've just admitted to
gehayi that I'm in that place that Sam Gamgee talks about "close the book, dad, I don't want to hear any more" I'm terrified it's all going to end badly. I cried when they took Alec, and I'll be in BITS if anything awful happens to them. Even though it would be realistic if it did.

I'm also reading "Honor Bound" by Wheeler Scott which is very disappointing. The blurb calls it a Traditional Regency and frankly, that's tantamont to breaking the Trade Descriptions Act, as it couldn't be FURTHER from a traditional regency. It's so modernish in style that you could easily substitue "Peninsular War" for "Gulf War" and you'd hardly notice the join. There is some lovely writing in it though, which is a shame.

Date: 2008-01-14 02:57 am (UTC)Melusine, by Sarah Monette, has a similar type of fantasy world and definite gay content. I didn't much care for it, despite the m/m, but a lot of people really did, so you might, so I'll try and put it in the mail.
