Feb. 15th, 2008 04:04 pmI mentioned it at my website, but didn't want to say anything here until it went live but I've been asked to join the LUSTBITES blog as a permanent member and there's a small intro interview up there today. Do come and join in as the ladies are unashamedly lusty (as they should be) and a lot of fun.

Date: 2008-02-16 12:04 am (UTC)Also, to answer a question that came up, you're no longer restricted to artist's mannequins. There's resin boyz out there who are quite astonishing correct anatomically, extremely posable, and are commonly customized in how their faces and hair looks by their owners. There's a whole varied range of stereotpic tyles, anywhere from your skinny boy band goth to computer geek to overly drahmahtic fashion kween. Even the defaults from the companies can be quite attractive, depending on your tastes. And including one that has an adjustable peen--no, no joking!
Some of these folks have their ljs totally flocked, so you may need to request to be added *for research purposes* of course!

hmm, not sure if you'd prefer this as a pm!

This is an example of the more conventional older-style look, scroll down to see what folks on the forums consider a fairly mature-looking boy. I don't, but I'm pretty demanding. The trend has been heading in the direction of older boyz/men with more realistic sculpts.

I'm having a little trouble finding posts with pix that you will be able to see without having full forum access. I think once you register you'll be able to see the galleries, wher you will see a lot of pix.
On this thread, scroll down considerably to see two different set of pix. These are more realistic dolls created from exactly the same sculpt. One is dark with wavy brown hair, the other is a pale boy with white-tipped hair.

This is a company photo of exactly the same guy. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194648
There's also quite a trend in very small cute dolls, and in animal dolls. Who knew pigs could be adorable?

Now, one of the reasons I *have* to show you this next thread is not just links to cute cat dolls. Underneath the links, you'll see a banner labeled, "Malfoy Mnner." If you look on the left side, post #1, you'll see the person who commented is vampireanneke. Don't know if you already know them, but they might have some interesting things to say about the dolls, if you want to contact them.

It might not surprise you to learn that slash-style fans have changed what used to be a fairly ordinary doll community. The boyz lurve has been an increasing contingent and I think they're a majority now. At the same time, DoA is a very gen sort of forum, Many of their members are under 18. So they police their material to stay open to minors, and nobody in my flist ever posts srsly haut queer pix there. (They save it for lj under flocked posts.)
You have to put in something like 40 comments before you'll see the Marketplace entries, but browsing through the galleries will give you a better idea of the possible range. Some of these creations get extremely spooky. Others are extremely realistic. There's also a lot of range of stylization in the sculptor's art. Some of the dolls are very anime-cartoony looking, some look like they just came out of Elfquest comic books, and some are much more realistic. It's very much a matter of personal taste whether you like these or are squicked by them.
Recently one company started sculpting individual heads, called a Minimee, from whatever art reference you want to give them, and to a range of realism from very stylized to very realistic. It doesn't have to be the face of the owner or a Jpop icon or an actor, but many of those are requested. I don't believe anybody's put together a group order for certain actors you might be interested in, however...(walking away, whistling gently...)
Less common, but tending toward older folks, is at Resinality.

I think you'll enjoy the tone of the backstories at this collector's website, although most of the dolls are girls and of a more stylized style.

Like a lot of the writers in the doll hobby, I got bushwhacked by one of my characters.
Okay, well, two of them. Third on the way. Like many others, probably more after that, judging by the evidence. (eyeroll)
This is probably one of the better shots of my main guy currently posted on lj.

Here's one of a light boy in the same mold. BTW,

Same mold, different doll and owner, totally different mood:

That is not a photoshopped image. That is actually one of the doll's hands.
BTW,
This is a fun set of pix from Mercy, who has a great range of dolls, and does photostories with fantasy-element plotlines.

I'll add you to my doll filter on lj, so you can scroll back if you want to--let me know if you'd rather not get spammed and I can take you off that.
Also, the biggest range of pix of styles and types that I've got is from a meetup I went to recently. That's on Flickr, here:

I knwo there's postings on DoA about arranging meetups over there in places like London etc., but I don't think you'll be able to see them until you've signed up, but I think you can once you've signed on, but before you have full access to the Marketplace.
A lot of times people post pix by hotlinking to company sites or Photobucket or Flickr or something.
