I've just finished a computer game called The Mystery of the Druids and bloody hell I hated every minute of it. I hate a game where I have to cheat and with this one, I had to cheat almost constantly. It's a Point & Click, but sheesh! I don't mind brain scrambling puzzles - I've played Discworld after all, but for gawd's sake give a player some CLUES as to what to do next!  The end solution was so arbitary that I would have had to have tried every item in my inventory (about 30) on every single person and object standing around at the end which would have been the equivalent of blind darts. Really not recommended. Really. Not.

I have the best flist, and people are very generous. [livejournal.com profile] rbm00 gave me a gift voucher to get the book I couldn't get hold of, and I'll be getting on with that soon. I'm going to try and get one review done a week from now on, if I can manage it, there are so MANY (although still, such a limited genre) books on THE LIST to be reviewed yet, and even if one new book came out every month, I'd be panicking.

I've just started The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb, and contrary to my expectations (I really didn't enjoy the back blurb, so it just goes to show that even big publishers can cock up in that regard) I'm thoroughly enjoying it.  By GUM it's slashy, though. There's Burrich and his obvious utter devotion to Chivalry, and then Chade and Fitz himself. For someone who doesn't approve of fanfiction she writes very slashable characters.

After Robin Hobb's many tirades against fanfic and blogging and whatnot, I've felt almost prepared to hate her in retrospect, long after I've read the trilogies, but there's no use denying that she sketched a captivating world there, with believable, loveable/hateable characters. Oh gods, when you get to the Farseer sequel trilogy, The Tawny Man etc., you'll virtually explode with the unholy nosebleed of super-slashiness, I promise. :)

I really like starting a new author, it's such an adventure. I hope the standard stays high. I was a little bit worried about Fitz as he seemed to have a lot of Stu points that could be checked off, but he's not having it easy and it's not like everybody lurves him.

Especially the second Fitz-related trilogy has strong, strong undercurrents of homosexual UST, bordering on the resolved; I recall just having discovered slash proper (as a more or less established subgenre) at the time when I read it, and her being so... almost overt? really had me agog. It's all high fantasy, yes, but handled in a very lovely way, I thought. I hope you'll enjoy the books. :)

I nearly fell out of bed last night when Galen asked Fitz "Are you his Catamite, is it set up for you to draw strength from him?"

I assumed that he meant the stablemaster, but I'm not sure, I hope that's explained. It's like GRRM in a way, lots of mysteries.

Lol @ kitty! :P

I've added your LIST to my favourites just so I can push a few novels into my bookshelves.

OMG!Robin Hobb!I wanted to rec her in my LJ for so long!Yes, she is rather slashy isn't she, in a nice subtle kind of way?And she wrtes beautifully.

There's a second trilogy too, concerning Fitz.If you're interested I can e-mail it to you. Cause I just love to spread the word/love of books and writers I love *g*

P.S.: really? she doesn't approve of fanfiction?

Yes, it's the perfect kind of slash so far, where it's not seen and therefore is open to the readers' interpretation. Of course Fitz is 13, but that's not a problem with me and my grubby mind.

I'd love a copy, but I'd better not, I'd be gutted if people were sharing copies of my books and I was losing out on the royalties, so I'm going to take the high ground, but thank you for offering.

And no, she really really doesn't. Her rant is down off her site now, but there are plenty of comments still online talking about it. But then, she doesn't approve of blogging either, which she complains about - on her blog!!!

First, where's the cake? I want CAKE. =-D

Actually, I should have thought. I have the recipe for my mom's chocolate cake, which I love, and I could've gone to Kat and David's and baked it yesterday. I would lurve some of that cake today.

And second, friends of mine know Robin Hobb, and say she's a completely nice and low key person. How odd.

I KNOW. I'm annoyed with not having thought of it sooner.

And I don't know her. My friends only know her professionally. =-) I thought they might, so I asked them about her, after the anti-blog blog rant.

I have to say, she has a point. LJ is a siren, luring one to the rocks.
