She says:

I was reading a thread on Making Light this morning which was, as usual, intimidatingly erudite and much too clever for me, in which people were translating poems into LOL! and Txt! speak.  But I was too embarrassed to try it myself among so many works of genius.   So I thought I'd try it here instead.  See if you can guess the book of which this is a summary: And this is hers (which I can't get....)

This is mine: (which is EASY)

Women: I can has man plz?

Drkly handsum: ICK. Peasants!!
Clvr wman: DO NOT WANT.

Fool: Oh Hai. Lady CdeB was kind enough to give me a bukkit. Marry me?
Clvr wman: DO NOT WANT.
Dsperte wman: WANT!!!

Drkly handsum: WANT!
Clvr wman: DO NOT WANT

Tart: *iz tart* *lopes*
Drkly handsum: *saves day*
Clvr wman: WANT!

I'm thinking Austen. Is that even close? The Fool sort of reminded me of the male relative in Sense and Sensibility. I can't remember his name but he ended up marrying the Elizabeth Bennet's friend (Charlotte?).

Not Sense & Sensibility? Oh wait, the Bennett sisters aren't in that one, are they? I got the titles mixed up. Pride & Prejudice? (In my defence they're very similarly constructed titles!I)

I think Alex's is by or about dead Russians. Rasputin, p'raps?

The oppression and the nihilistic despair makes something Russian a good bet - but wrong, alas :) It's science fiction, if that helps?

Ursula K. LeGuin! I have read that! Mind you, only once, at at least 20 years ago, so hardly wonderful that I didn't recognize it.

The other ones are far, far better than mine. The one that started it -- a riff on "Timor Mortis Conturbat Me" -- had me sputtering at my desk!
