I've started to read my flist at last... I know - it's taken me a while, I've still been clinging to [livejournal.com profile] underlucius - but I've now bookmarked [livejournal.com profile] erastes' friends.

It's just... scary.

Was it so scary when I started off as [livejournal.com profile] underlucius? I can't really remember. Probably not, because in that LJ I started with about four friends and here I have loads of "instant" ones, and apart from the people who are here from UL, I don't know anyone.

I was always the kid who would stand and watch at the edge of the playground until someone said hello. As much as I long for literary success I really would hate to get to the stage where I couldn't comment on anyone's LJ or leave comments enabled on my own. That would be pretty sad.

I'll be brave, soon. Really. *watches*

I'm hoping you'll update this journal often with publishing news and also chitchat about writing. ^^; I'm afraid I can't mingle so much in your other journal because of the "fandom gap" (I don't follow HP), and I'm always eager for conversations over original writing/publishing with you and others who've got quite a bit of experience in the field (so far I only have about four or five people on my flist who either write original fics or are actively pursuing publishing... one of them doesn't even talk to me when I comment in her journal *sniffle*).

And pleasepleaseplease edit an anthology!

I certainly will be discussing writing a lot more. I havent' had the guts to do so yet, as it seems that any discussion of "literature" on my other LJ is an admission of wank, but here I shall.

I have a few who are crossing the divide between fandom and original if you want their names?

Oh, that's okay, thanks. I'm uncomfortable introducing myself (or being introduced by a mutual friend) to someone and would rather cross paths with other people the "natural way" (for lack of a better term). ^^;;;;;

My writing circle's small, and I don't mind so long as we communicate with each other (what's worse than a small writing circle is a small writing circle that's quiet). I liken it to a little coffeehouse group. Heh.

Friended you back, thanks!

*is mortified at not friending that journal before*

And I wish she'd edit an anthology too - it would be awesome.

Mebbe you can edit a horror anthology? :D

See, this is the wrong promise to make. It should be "I don't bite... unless you want me to. In all other cases, I simply nibble hard."

Thank you!

I was feeling a little lost, it's always difficult to pounce into someone's LJ and comment on the crap day they've had or a meme when they've never heard from you before - thank you!!

*waves* Hullo. I realized it was rather rude to comment on a comment in your journal, without actually saying 'hi.' And I'd really hate to be rude. ^__^

So, hi! I'm more of a lurker than anything else at the moment, but you'll probably see me around and about eventually.

I'd never think it rude, not here, but I do worry about bouncing into other people's LJ's. (although I probably will, anyway, *G*)

Welcome, and thanks!

It's not really the 'commenting on the comments of others' that really got me, but the realization that my first reply on your journal was to someone else. It just wasn't a proper hello. :D

*hugs* I've been in a similar boat, as I was using LJ for YEARS under another name before getting this id. It can be scary, yes. But I've found it's fun too.

I friended you cos you friended me and you looked interesting. I have no idea where you found me :P *grin*

I should probably post more in general... let alone about the fact that I'm working on writing stuff *sigh*

Hi! I'm [personal profile] gnomi, and I wear many hats. Like, for real. I'm an Orthodox Jew, and since I'm a married chick, I cover my head when I'm outside the house.

Mostly, I'm a goofy technical writer who makes bad puns and odd observations about the universe in general and language in particular. But I'm also a writer of fiction (as yet unpublished; as yet unsubmitted, actually) and an editor for Torquere Press. (Yes, I'm an Orthodox Jew who is a reader/writer of gay erotica. I'm not the only one, either. I keep pondering making an LJ community for it.)

I'm super-shy in real life (and in cyber life also), so I can completely relate to what you're saying. But I'm getting better at introducing myself, and so I have here. :-)

I bet you don't tell many people about your hobby....

I bet you don't tell many people about your hobby....

A lot of people know I write. They don't necessarily know what I write, however. Same about the editing -- a lot of people know I am a freelance editor, and they know I have a regular gig with a small publisher. If asked directly, I'll tell them what the publisher publishes. But otherwise, unless I know they're open to the concept, I don't mention it explicitly.

Which leads to interestng verbal gyrations when I have story-research questions to ask people. I had to ask a friend what building someone would use if they wanted to attempt suicide on the Yeshiva University campus. The statement "it's for a story I'm writing" is not always enough to slake some people's curiosity.
