I've started to read my flist at last... I know - it's taken me a while, I've still been clinging to
underlucius - but I've now bookmarked
erastes' friends.
It's just... scary.
Was it so scary when I started off as
underlucius? I can't really remember. Probably not, because in that LJ I started with about four friends and here I have loads of "instant" ones, and apart from the people who are here from UL, I don't know anyone.
I was always the kid who would stand and watch at the edge of the playground until someone said hello. As much as I long for literary success I really would hate to get to the stage where I couldn't comment on anyone's LJ or leave comments enabled on my own. That would be pretty sad.
I'll be brave, soon. Really. *watches*

Date: 2006-04-03 03:28 pm (UTC)My writing circle's small, and I don't mind so long as we communicate with each other (what's worse than a small writing circle is a small writing circle that's quiet). I liken it to a little coffeehouse group. Heh.

Date: 2006-04-04 05:51 am (UTC)Hi! I'm
Mostly, I'm a goofy technical writer who makes bad puns and odd observations about the universe in general and language in particular. But I'm also a writer of fiction (as yet unpublished; as yet unsubmitted, actually) and an editor for Torquere Press. (Yes, I'm an Orthodox Jew who is a reader/writer of gay erotica. I'm not the only one, either. I keep pondering making an LJ community for it.)
I'm super-shy in real life (and in cyber life also), so I can completely relate to what you're saying. But I'm getting better at introducing myself, and so I have here. :-)

Date: 2006-04-04 11:56 am (UTC)A lot of people know I write. They don't necessarily know what I write, however. Same about the editing -- a lot of people know I am a freelance editor, and they know I have a regular gig with a small publisher. If asked directly, I'll tell them what the publisher publishes. But otherwise, unless I know they're open to the concept, I don't mention it explicitly.
Which leads to interestng verbal gyrations when I have story-research questions to ask people. I had to ask a friend what building someone would use if they wanted to attempt suicide on the Yeshiva University campus. The statement "it's for a story I'm writing" is not always enough to slake some people's curiosity.
