Today is the day that I cast aside my cynical face, get my English flag out and wave it like a Jingo-istic fool.  I admit it, I adore the Trooping of the Colour, next to a real big fat royal wedding or a Coronation (never seen one and would rather like to see one in my lifetime, however macabre that is) it's my favourite ceremony. Plus you get it every year which is.. YAY!

Isn't the trooping of the colour British not English? What about all the Scottish soldiers, like Mr Marquesate? Or the Welsh regiments? Or the fact the Queen is the head of all of them? Just wondering.

And my fav ceremony before I stopped having a telly in 2003 was Remembrance Day. Got me every time without a fail, and annual as well. :-) If the Brits still do something well, then it's the pomp and glitz and the gold embroidery of these ceremonies. *rawr*

Yes, but I'm English. If the Welsh and the Scottish and the Irish are allowed to be separate, then so am I! It's a good one this year because they are reminding people that these aren't tin soldiers but boys who have all done time in the recent conflicts.

I just LOVE it. I sit and sing along to all the marches and it just makes me choke up inside.

I hope it's not as warm & muggy there as it is here, with those big hairy things on their heads. Yay parades!

They used to be made of real bearskin (they are called bearskins) but these days are very light and made of artifical fibre. Not that I'd like to stand there for several hours all togged up in thick uniform! There have been times when soldiers faint - I think that's the only reason people watch it!

Well, she could abdicate. Because I think she took the "long live the queen" thing to heart. And at this rate poor Prince Charles is going to be a dotty old man when and if he's ever crowned.

Nod nod - it will probably be a repeat of Victoria/Edward although Charles is not quite as dissolute as Edward!
