This is the LJ of Iris Print's Kellie Lynch's husband. Seems that the money that they are keeping from their authors of is being spent on expensive vacuum cleaners.

Also, on the most recent post, it appears that Ms Lynch's computer isn't broken, as she watches You Tube. Shame she can't send any emails, isn't it?

She's listed on the list of Sellers at Yaoi Jamboree - so please - if you are planning to go to the Jamboree, and she IS there, do not buy any books as she is keeping her authors' royalties and passing dud cheques.

I'll be surprised if she is there - surely she wouldn't have the brass neck. I have contacted the Jamboree with my Director of the Erotic Authors' Association's hat on.

Lets hope they stop her from attending and selling more books she's not going to pay royalties on.

ETA: As you can see by the reply to my comment on "Mr Lynch's" blog, he seems to find the situation highly amusing.

Please pass this along, if you'd be so kind.

:O

I heard about this today. This just gets worse and worse, doesn't it? How awful.

I also read his reply to you on his LJ. Wow. I know the business isn't his, but how flippant can you get?

Yes, it's charming isn't it? I'm sure they are both having a good laugh about it. If I were RW Day I'd be sending the bailiffs in.

I'm surprised at her patience.

I mean, would a simple, polite response (and not calling you "sparky" WTH?) have killed him?

Let's give Mr Kellie a great big Wanker of the Week Award. Or is that the "Great Big Wanker" of the week... either way, what an @ss.

I can accept his remark about keeping the various finances separate (though I have no idea if it jibes with other things Kellie has said about their household finances). Calling you "sparky" is somewhat less of a class act. Ugh.

I do too, however if my business was in financial trouble, I'd take money from my own finances rather than rook my authors.

Oh, yeah, same. Sadly, we're long past the point where it's clear she doesn't posses that sense of decency.

They also seem to have a Wii and a Game Cube. Surely these could be sold to pay their writers.

I don't usually call people out, but this situation is really pissing me off.

Oh how horrid. How demeaning. How infuriating. Some people just don't ever get what a rotten, miserable thing it is to cheat others.

I am reminded of when a journalist asked Ghandi what he thought of Western Civilization and he replied that he thought it would be a good idea.

I would bet royalties are going to make minimum payments on their credit cards. This sounds suspiciously like a sad but typical American lifestyle. Feeling down about bad debt? Cheer yourself up--buy something on credit.

Depending on the state in which they live, and whether or not she incorporated, "Sparky" may have a big surprise coming. If she didn't spend the $ to incorporate, a lawsuit from creditors could make 'em sell the Dyson to pay bad debts. I would suggest the defrauded authors talk to a lawyer about a class action suit and file as soon as possible.

Over here in the UK we have the small debts court and you don't need a lawyer to do it. But I don't know the set up in the US.

Actually, I'm British.

To put aside my thin veneer of contempt for these proceedings, however, I'd like to reassure you that no Iris money ever went to personal accounts. Quite the opposite, in fact.

If their assets (i.e., their home and cars) are held jointly and the business is a sole proprietorship (i.e., she is the owner), then their finances probably are nowhere near as separate as he'd like to believe. If she's sued for nonpayment and loses, all their property can go toward the judgment.

That's why lawyers encourage business owners to incorporate, because if the business goes belly up, the owner has no liability.

Well yeah.

There are ways to pierce the corporate veil, but it's not easy.

If she does have the stones to show up at Yaoi Jamboree, hopefully someone will be waiting with the Yaoi Paddle, and not in a good way.

It's amazing how many publishers I've dealt with who are utter and complete lying assholes.

Of the six novels I've published, only ONE publisher was halfway decent. The rest were scumbags.

Amazing, isn't it? o_O

LOVED your comment on the vacuum cleaner post, btw. You are made of WIN. ^_^

Thank you - I seem to have upset "Mr Lynch" though as he's now trolling me. Very grown up.

I've been lucky with publishers (so far, touch wood) I even got paid for my short story in Iris Print's Connections!!!!

Kellie has announced the closing, and some other stuff on the Iris blog.. I'm still holding onto my boycott request until she's in dealt squarely with Tina and the other Iris authors.

I really, really hate this.

it's a bit absurd seeing so many people so very, very upset about an eighty dollar check that nobody asked for.

Wow, isn't THAT the voice of a professional?

Thank you for getting on top of this, Erastes. I had a project under contract with Iris that was due to launch in BL Twist Magazine, which folded, as we all know. Unfortunately Kellie didn't think it was important to inform me of that fact before I flew across the country for the launch at YaoiCon. Arg.

BTW, RW, I'm so glad I bought a copy of Thaw back in 2006 when you were still getting paid for it. I really enjoyed it.

It's the silence that bothers me, as much as the withholding of money - it takes seconds to contact people, and to have a emailing group of all authors under contract isn't rocket science. "I screwed up" would elicit much more sympathy than her actual behaviour

That's exactly what I said on kiriko_moth's lj. Most of this, probably all of it, could have been avoided with a little communication.
