This is the biggest load of tripe I've seen for many years, and that's saying something.

Its tagline should be: "Makes Robin Hood look authentic"

I;m planning to spork episode 1 and 2 this week... Don't know if I've got the courage to watch more than that.

In the trailer for next week's episode tonight, Ben said "That's ridiculous!", and I had to agree with him. However, it gives me an hour away from the computer and WITH the knitting, which given the current state of the various projects is a Good Thing™.

And it's only the most recent Robin Crud that it makes look authentic. My money is still on Magwilde (what a stupid name!) being a descendant of the Lady of the Lake. It's the only thing I can think of to account for the apparent Kwest for Excalibur.

Couldn't agree more. I watched to the end of the first episode with some difficulty as it got more and more bloody ridiculous. Shan't bother with that one again. What a shame because it has the lovely Hugh Bonneville in it and he's a thumping good actor. Had to laugh next day when Terry Wogan said on his breakfast show what a load of tripe it was. ". . . the final scene when they were swinging on ropes in an underground vault amid burning crucifixes, attacking each other with huge swords reminded one of Monty Python. One almost expected Michael Palin to turn up exclaiming: 'No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!'"

I wish he had.

The archaeologist setting fire to the Roman crosses .... save me.

The one yesterday was hilarious. Digging manacles of 200 years old out of the Bristol channel and they weren't even rusty.

I think I read somewhere that it got cancelled before the first series was even finished, or something, because it was so bad. Not having a TV I am thankfully not subjected to shite. :-D

dan brown, i blame him, and his craptastic view of historical authenticity, I haven't seen the second one yet, but i will, because it surely can't be as bad as the first one, and i am intrigued about the secret room and all, and surely it must get better
surely
the beeb can't do this to her

It was worse, believe me. You wait until you get to the foliage planted in the shape of a sword....

didn't you spot the crucifixed shaped trench in the first one?
hmmmm
I've given up on expecting it to be even slightly historically accurate
I totally blame Dan Brown, I know, lets take half a centuries old myth that people have written hundreds of books on, read half of one of them and get it all wrong - it was Poussin who did the painting and not Da Vinci, and it's called Feast of the Shepherds and Poussin's best mate signed his letters Blue Apples and is commonly accepted to be the man in the iron mask because of something he knew
now we have a fascinating REAL historical conspiracy myth that has very little to do with the church, and even less to do with its branch organisations, not offensive in any way - and what does he write, shit
and then, when they are making the movie of the prequel they ask the church if it's okay to film a book about an evil pope if they can film in their locations
what kinda drugs were they on, something tells me that they're not over the counter

I'm so glad it's not just me. I gave up in disgust half way through the first episode (it was that or throw something at the tv) and can't bring myself to even think about watching any more.

I wouldn't have minded if it was rip-roaring tosh, if only it had been well-written, well-acted, well-produced, and well-researched, dammit. If I wrote a novel with that many clangers my editors would jump on me, so why not the people responsible for this? And I cannot believe they have an archaeology consultant on board. Actually, I've just checked who that is, and I can believe it just fine.

*fumes gently*

Thanks, I'll have a look. I've already had a ball with the Guardian and Times message boards and the BBC one was a hoot after the first week, but yesterday it had been taken over by dweebs who all luuuurrrve the show. Gah.

It doesn't help that I studied archaeology... *rolls eyes*

Oh yeah. I wouldn't expect them to be 100% accurate because arch. is such a slow patient thing that you couldn't fit it all into a one-hour drama. But this was *littered* with really basic errors...

What made me "laugh" in episode one is that the newbie is given instructions to go and catalogue and wrap everything in tissue - but Dr Viv finds a jumble of chain mail and linen just lying around in a box - then the Newbie suddenly says "I found this log" which is conspicuously not logged or wrapped in anything.
