A perfectly lovely review of Night Moves here.  She liked all the stories, but really loved Chiaroscuro. This was a nice boost as I'm in the horrible black place at the moment - don't know if other writers end up in it, but it's the place after the elation of finishing something and before the excitement of starting something new. It's dark and it's the place where everyone (imaginary everyone) tells you you suck.

Not that I don't miss Mother every day, but I miss her particularly for coming up with an idea that I can run with. I do have an idea, to be honest, but it think it might be just a bit too slow, being literally two men together for an entire book and no-one else.

Anyway. T'is late, am off to bed wish I had something more exciting to say!

Writing, art, comics, programming projects...
I call it post-creative depression.

It's reassuring that it seems to be a common complaint!

Oh, I know the horrible black place very well indeed. *hands you a torch* Try looking in the corners. There are often good ideas dropped by others hiding there.

*hugs*

I do have several ideas, but there are problems with them all in relation to my new publisher. Perhaps I should run them all past them and see what they say? But then... I hate to work like that - for years I've been writing what I WANT and then trying to sell it, it seems wrong to do it another way...

*iz pathetic*

I write 'on spec' too. So I know how it feels. I don't know if I could do it the other way, actually.

Oh, dark places. Spooky. It's always after the last and before the next leap of faith.

I have lots of faith in you...You can borrow mine for a while. (Plus I'm waiting for the Next Thing.) Write like the wind, Erastes!

Two men together for the whole book sounds like a good idea. And that review is dead-on (or undead-on...) I don't usually like vampire stories at all, but you created such a feel for the period in a very short space -- I think it was one of your Oscar Wilde projects.

Re indolence: you've just finished a book, for pity's sake... you've earned a few days off!

*LAUGHS*

Yes, I know, but you know the feeling. i go and do something else and there's this guilt kicking at me that I'm loafing around at home and not writing.

It's a side effect of being creative. Or maybe it's the source. They're still figuring that one out.

Congrats on the good review, though. That should definitely give you a boost. :)

It's sad that the anthology hasn't done well at all, part of that is the cover, I'm sure.

I'm going to rework it into a novel I think, as the contract is only a couple of years, she said that she thought it was too short, and that's something I can address - it was supposed to be a novel first and foremost.

Congratulations, it's a lovely review, full of some decent detail and enthusiasm which is lacking in some reviews (not for your books, I hasten to say). But then it's a great book and your contribution very rewarding.

I'm in that black place too. Not that I'd wish it on anyone, but it's nice to hear it described, and now I know there are maybe other people stumbling around the walls, not just me, stubbing my toe and bemoaning the lack of any inspirational plot *mwahaha*

*All* my ideas are slow, or already done, is all I can say. Blimey, I'd better go and find some chocolate...

Aw - thanks Clare, how kind of you.

Yes, it's reassuring (although horrible too) to know that so many other writers have the same problem!!

mmm chocolate sounds good, too.

Congratulations - that is a WONDERFUL review!!!

Yes, I understand the black place, having been in it quite often. I'm thinking of moving some furniture in there, personally - some rugs, a reading lamp or two... ^_^
