Just seen an advert for a writer who is offering a workshop on "how to write m/m."  I had a look out of interest, as I'm always concerned that I'm not getting it right.  What got me about this workshop is that I couldn't see that the author had even WRITTEN any m/m at all.

Now if that's not bandwagon jumping, then I don't know what is.

Have been editing. Am up to page 31. Will get to page 50 and have a break.  It's not easy...

Finally got a bicoloured egg.two in fact!! This is good because bi colours will only breed with other bis.

I am so jealous of your bicolored eggs. I've been trying forever.

They are becoming less rare - check the abandoned page and keep refreshing that, I saw two there at 1300hrs.

I couldn't resist a red one; so, I have too many right now. Hopefully the three older eggs will hatch soon.

Excuse me for laughing heartily about the "how to write M/M". Did they mean the actual sex?

That's a very easy thing to partially figure out first hand and partially interview second hand. Usually for free, might cost a cuppa or a drink, and some red ears.

Yeah, I'd rather not pay some author who hasn't published any $15 when I could spend that money on something better! Like me!

good luck w/the editing!

That workshop should, at the least, be interesting just to see how someone who doesn't seem to have written m/m fiction would teach it to others.

Also, you're dragons are CUTE!

Thanks, it's very dull - I must prefer tracked changes, they are SO much faster!

I'm baffled - unless she writes under a name I don't know, but there's nothing on her website or blog showing ANY m/m books at all!

Thanks! I'll be dumping the brightblue one, as it's a duplicate, I think.

I checked out the authors blog - it looks like a typical 'let me promote my work using education as a marketing strategy'. I've done this myself at conventions - I talk 'Doujinshi 101' and sometimes 'The Business of Yaoi'. Most of my 'lesson plans' are at my blog, so if you come to the con you can hear me talk about it, talk to me, and hopefully buy some books of mine off my table after the panel.

I don't charge for it though. :/ If I was best selling print author, and perhaps the most prolific and best selling in GloBL, I might think of charging-- but I'm not.

While I'm all for bringing culture to uncorrupted [teaching good erotica authors to create better m/m erotica] I can't see why charging novices $15 to cultivate their ero-lit skills is helping anyone but the author make a few extra bucks. If you're an author looking for some cash-- write something, don't charge n00b writers.

/end high-horse.

Now - I'd pay money to listen to you talking about Yaoi or Doujinshi, because you have cred - this bod has none, that I can see

I like that high horse!

Bis only breed with other bis because they're tired of being accused of being promiscuous or not able to make up their minds.

And bless you, bless you, bless you for not using the apostrophe to indicate the plural.

What got me about this workshop is that I couldn't see that the author had even WRITTEN any m/m at all.

Well, that's a creative approach I suppose. [bemused smile] Hey, maybe I can get a gig teaching people how to write a NYTimes bestseller? Or how to build a home theater in your house? Or how to be a winning Formula One driver...?

One would think that someone would be advertising their qualifications to teach a class, not hiding them. You shouldn't have to look hard to find them, therefore I strongly suspect they don't exist.

Or maybe this person has written a number of m/m books, but is supremely unqualified to teach a marketing class...? :)

Who is this personage doing the offering?

Yes, that's what I thought! That's what struck me as odd as "I can teach m/m writing" - because it looks like a great lesson plan - but what's her credentials?

Your first three are not there, though...did something happen?

Also let's add in a "wtf?" from me about the writing m/m workshop. That's just craziness, but then...people no longer surprise me these days.

Um... somebody wants me to pay them to teach me something, I'd better know what it is they do so I can decide if they do it well. I mean, yes, it's possible to learn something from almost anyone, but sometimes what you learn is "this is not a good way to do X."
