I LOVED IT. I loved every single swashbuckling minute of it. It wasn't half an hour too long, it was, if anything a bit too short. I could have had another half an hour and wouldn't have cared. (although my bucket of diet pepsi was sitting a little uncomfortably me as we sat through the credits.) /tmi

The bit after the credits WAS a waste of time. I should have taken notice and not bothered, but still - I'd have always wondered what it was.

Anyway - here we go! Yo Ho!!

Jack; What can I say? Squeeee!!! Utterly wonderful. Fabulous entrance (how will they do another great entrance in 3??) He runs like a girl, you never EVER know what he's going to do, and why. Hasn't lost of smidge of the brilliant characterisation. In the 3 year gap he's as fresh as ever, it's as if he kept him in a box and dusted him off. Hilarious moments everywhere and in jokes that I just loved.

Will: Hunky from the first moment, he didn't have to "grow" into his part like the first film, he suits the part of Flynn-wannabee far better than he does Knight etc etc. Perfect straight man for Jack of course and the love between them is so clear you could use it for spectacles. LOVED LOVED LOVED the hurt puppy face when he'd seen the BITCH kissing Jack and the little slashy demon in my just knew that he was just as hurt at Jack kissing bitch than bitch kissing Jack.

Norrington: OH HUBBA hubba. Hold me down. I knew Davenport was handsome in a slightly greasy way, but ... I am in love - he was fucking gorgeous! Please - never put that man in a white wig again! (However I'd sure he will be all bewigged again in 3) (grrrr)

Bitch No comment. She didn't need to be in it. I hate her.

Davy Jones Omg. Where do they Get these incredible villians from? Barbarossa was the most wonderful villian - but Nighy blew me away with his performance. I'd even whisper Oscar because even with the silicon and the CGI he still acted and blew just about everyone out of the water - with no nose and no eyebrows. I was SO impressed. He even seemed human - and yes, I know how ironic that is, but bloody hell! That man deserves an Oscar just from his EYE acting. *blown away*

I also adored the little despot. I can't remember his name. Butcher? Baker? something beginning with B - at first I was dissapointed that he wasnt' - oh I don't know - Jason Isaacs, but then as the film went on I saw how it worked - he was very powerful in a Napoleonic sort of way, and quite scary. Nothing so scary as a bureaucrat with a lot of paperwork and the King behind him. Wonderful assassin too.

Fight scenes? Amazing. The 3 way fight was brilliant, just BRILLIANT. and as for the wheel, I just laughed my socks off, and there aren't many films that can make me laugh out loud, believe me.

The beginning was brilliant, the CGI was incredible - the pirates were horrible!! - Bootstrap held me in the palm of his barnacled little hand. The Black Spot was great too, I remember being really afraid of that when I read Treasure Island. Oh - and the undead monkey!! Best line "Look - an undead monkey!" (actually no, that's not the best line at all, but it really made me laugh - and feel sorry for the monkey)

And the ending? OMG I so didn't see that coming. I thought that he'd be back in the snippet after the credits, and I sat there like a lemon wondering who was coming down the stairs, (in spite of the hints Ol' Black Teeth was handing out) and Kerry and I just went SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! and yelled at the screen "YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO US!!!!!!!" simultaneously.

I certainly didn't see any loose plot threads, or stuff I didn't understand, I enjoyed the references to the previous film, like the story he told the Guards about being made a King, and of course we didn't believe him, and look! he was telling the truth! Oh and the Slash Reference!!! *Is so happy*

Oh there's loads more, I could go on and on and on but....*grins like a fool*

I loved it - can you tell?

I've always rather liked Elizabeth, but I can see how others don't. I did think the Jack/Elizabeth in this movie was kind of annoying, though. It seemed very random and tacked on to me, and I thought they had better chemistry in the first movie. Oh well. I thought her tantrum on the beach was hilarious, though.

Regarding the ending, I think she cornered him in to doing something heroic, but I also think she was absolutely right about him in her earlier speech and that by coming back to the Pearl he'd already indicated his intent to do something mad and heroic. His sudden interest in Elizabeth notwithstanding, the Pearl is his first and greatest love and I think it was the Pearl that he came back for and the Pearl that he died(?) for. I'm glad Elizabeth had the decency to feel bad for what she'd done, but I'm not sure that her action really changed the ending that significantly. At that point I think he'd already made the decision to save the Pearl or die trying. Of course, that's just my interpretation after one viewing and I'll need to watch it at least five more times before I make up my mind for sure. Oh, how painful! ;)

she was right - she had him pegged completely, but goading him into taking on the Kraken single handed? She couldn't have thought he'd come out of that, she knew he'd die, and she thought he had.

and isn't it lovely we can debate Elizabeth like we debate Snape? Such genius from Buckheimer or who ever came up with it.

Hehe, yes. My feelings for Snape approximate yours for Elizabeth, I fear. *g*

What I find interesting is that she didn't have faith in her own analysis of him. As I said above, I think she was absolutely right about him and he would have done something much like he did anyway, but by trusting neither Jack himself (which I find easier to excuse) nor her own judgement about him, she cost him, at the very least, time. Time that would have been better spent in just about any possible way than struggling to free himself from the shackles!
