Oh Goodness me.

Who's that being mentioned on Publisher's Weekly today?

Could it be me and [livejournal.com profile] alex_beecroft?

You know - I just think it might be!! (please ignore the typo, too. It should be "Hardcore" not "hardcover." *laughs*)

ETA: and a discussion on Dear Author, too.

And we've been given the OK to release the book covers - so here they are!

First thought: DAMN! HOT DUDES!

Second thought: Umm...same dudes? Hope they're getting double royalties for the use of their image!

Congrats on your mention in PW!

Same chaps yes - but that's our fault both having a blond and a brunet. We should have had a redhead there somewhere!!

And this piece of news makes me scream with joy:

>Running will promote the line through traditional romance outlets including advertising in Romantic Times and outreach through regional RWA chapters. Noting that the books will be shelved in the romance section rather than the erotica section, Running said the book will be “created to mirror romance novels, not gay erotica.”

Oooh, a sexy smith! Fwoar! (And LOL at the image at bottom of your cover, with all the men and their BIG LONG STICKS pointed at each other! Oh grow up Wendy, you're too old to be so puerile.)

But the link to PW isn't working for me; too much traffic, maybe?

*laughs* too much traffic. As if!!

Very sexy smith. I hope he comes over like that, at least. He should have longer hair, but I don't really care!

I love the bottom of both covers - and the way they are made to look like a matching pair with the same format, colours and design.

Wow, I'm so impressed! That's so awesome--and I can't think of two more deserving authors. :)

(Just out of curiosity, do you know if Running Press will be publishing only M/M historical romance?)

Date: 2008-12-15 08:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
Thank you! And yes, at the moment they are only publishing m/m historical of pre-1900 only. Here's hoping the books do well and they expand the range!

I love them. Now that's the way to do book covers. Linden Bay could learn something from the pros. I see that the whole line is going to have a uniform design. I can't imagine anybody who likes historical gay romance would not be inticed by these covers!

Date: 2008-12-15 08:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
The nicest thing is that the cover tells you what the book is about without shoving it down your throat. Gay romance. Check. Can I tell the era? Hopefully. Is it a scene from the book? YES!

Thanks Mark, Alex and I are a little giddy right now.

Very attratcive covers indeed - even if the fellas' faces look seriously modern! This design gives you a good idea of what it's about: male/male + some historical context. Let's hope the new line is successful.

I was pleased to see Running said the book will be “created to mirror romance novels, not gay erotica.” - especially considering how dire some erotica covers are: put more people off than bring them in.

Far better shelving, too, I should think, for sales purposes. [There was a typo in every word above 1 character in that sentence! Fingers, brain, get your act together!]

So now we wait until April! Considering you've been talking about Transgressions ever since I first ran across you as UL writing LM and SS, four more months isn't all that long.

Go you! Great news.

Go you! Wow! Publisher's Weekly and Dear Author and such delicious book covers --- I'd buy them just to keep the covers around, myself. :-)

False Colors is much hotter despite the lack of a forge. There is an intensity in it the other lacks. (And um... naval uniforms. I may be biased!) BUT they are both awesome covers especially for the m/m genre which is notorious for bad covers!

Congrats on the PW shout out!

What? Sweaty puritans don't do it for you? *laughs* I don't mind - they are both lovely to me! :)

What's nice (as I've said) is that they are actual scenes from the books, rather than just "half naked men, oh so it must be gay romance"

thank you!

A 21-gun salute... you deserve it.

That's the way to do a gay historical cover! The scene along the bottom is Extremely Cool, too. Some of the best romance cover design I've seen.

It is a bit of a risk, considering the economy in general -- but books are still a cheap escape, and entertainment usually does well in hard times (and helps people ride out hard times).

If Running Press scores a hit with this -- and damn, that pretty would draw in anyone -- it should settle the question of whether gay historical is a valid genre or just a passing fanny... er, I mean fancy.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Those are lovely covers. I am a bit of a cover whore so they have to be either pleasing to the eye (which both are ... VERY much so *resists the urge to lick* ^^;;) or really really AWFULLY cheesy... which I know you are glad these are not... but I would have loved them even if they were because quite often I live for cheese.

Makes you want to read the books so very badly - I am totally going to grab both titles the moment I can ^_^.

And nice and tasteful. No CLINCHES and no mantitty. One nipple, but that was an accident. *G* We had a lot of discussion with the publisher and although we didn't ever say "this is what we'd like to see" we had given her links to some of the massive online discussions - and polls that had been done on various sites so it was great to see that they'd taken on board that a lot of what was said.

Thanks hun. xxx
