Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] dementedsiren and [livejournal.com profile] alankria!  have a good one!

Just finished watching South Pacific - I've only seen the film about twice before, the last being well before my slash-goggles attachment.  I had my chin on the Floor as it was one of the gayest films I've ever seen.  You may well say "Well, der." at me and I deserve your mockery. I was raised with the soundtrack - my parents had the original cast soundtrack recording and from the time I could walk and sing my sister and I would sing-a-long to it, acting out all the songs. When we sang "There is nothing like dame" we would march around on the chairs and settees, bouncing around like the sailors on screen.  But to see it through the slash goggles... Well.  Men in tiny cut-off tee-shirts.  Men in tiny tiny shorts with - bizarrely - tool belts. Most men with their shirts off and more mantitty than Smart Bitches on a good day.

Judge for yourself...

Then there was a shower scene with a modesty panel - three men in the shower - and written on the modesty panel was "Look, but don't touch."

!!!!  LOOK?????  If you look at that section you'll see there are more men watching the others shower than there are watching the girls jog past...

LJ ate my comment. Bah.

You don't need slash goggles for that flick! I saw it for the first time a few weeks back, and that was pretty damn obvious. Fun, despite racism driving the plot, and the primitive cinematic devices (like colouring the whole screen yellow in some scenes? WTF?).

I completely missed it before!!

Yes, I was rather put off with everything going blue pink and yellow! However I suppose it did emphasise "war ain't REALLY like this" part.

lol. South Pacific has been revived for Broadway and playing right now and I so wish I had the money for a weekend to run to NYC and see it. I really do love this musical.

South Pacific has been one of my favorite musicals as far back as junior high. And yes, there's a lot of slashiness. But then there's a bunch of men on an island with few women. What else are they going to do with their time? LOL

I agree! Have to ... relief those tensions!

"We got every kind of feeling 'cept the feeling of relief"

FILTH! I don't know how it got past the censor!

I've got South Pacific on VCR (did your version have really weird lighting too). I've only seen it once, but now I think I'll need to do so again...
