I suddenly realised that I hadn't commented on the New Doctor.

Personally I think he looks bloody promising. I am so thrilled to pieces that they didn't go for any of the "dead certs" that I saw mentioned over and over and over again, Paterson, Grant, Simm and the rest. Yes, he's young, but he'll only be about a year younger than the so-far younger doctor when he takes over, but he sure can act - I've seen him in a couple of supporting roles and was impressed even if I had no idea what his name was.

I also like immensely that they didn't go with a "pretty pretty man" and have gone with character, in the way they had with Ecclestone and Tennant, this man isn't handsome, not in any book - but he's charismatic, hugely so - and even has a touch of Heath Ledger in him, imho, I think if he can express an ancient soul, in the way the producers say he can, he'll make the part his own. I hope so. I'm so happy that they've kept the faith of the show.

And look at those HANDS!!!!!

I love the finger-wgaggling. I don't think he can control that. It will become iconic, I'm sure of it.

It will probably have to be, unless the director wants to spend his days yelling "keep the hands still!"

It's nice to have an older doctor than us, isn't it? For a change?

*cough cough cough*

I'm looking forward to it! I'm sure there wasn't this huge amount of hype when I was a kid though, was there?

I am so utterly in love already. He's absolutely perfect, a fabulous geekboy, and has some of the most awesome bone structure I've ever seen. I'm thrilled with the choice, and I can't wait to see him play.

I hated Eccleston. HATED. I thought he sucked. And don't ever get me started on Billie Piper.

Nobody will ever top Tom Baker. Ever. But I'm curious to see what this guy can do.

I'm torn between the first four doctors as my faves as those are the four I grew up with. I didn't mind Eccleston, but I would have liked him to stay a bit longer to make the role more his own. As for Billie, I think that was Rusty's fault, he was obviously mad about the character and, fan-boy like, he emphasized the shipping far too much, not seeing that many people were turned off by this.

I kind of was screaming at the TV in happiness. So glad he is relatively unknown! And I think he's stunning, in a non-sexy way.

He's pretty perfect! I just hope he can bring the age of the role to his acting.

I was really pleased actually - I do think he has that quirk, that energy that the Doctor needs, but also I can believe that he will be able to play the weight of the Doctor's actual age.

I was always more of an Eccleston girl, though I don't not love Tennant, but I'm really looking forward to how Smith & Moffat will re-invigorate the new series. :D

And yeah, I'm not going to lie, I'll be perving on him just a little. ;)

Oh, that interview is adorable. I've seen him in both of the Sally Lockhart adaptations, and he was just fantastic -- absolutely stole every scene he was in. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Doctor. That being said, the hands! OMG! I really hope they don't make him get rid of that.

My very first thought was he looks too young!! But I think I've warmed up to him already. I do like that he's not really pretty. And oh yeah, the HANDS - I noticed them at once! ;-)

I'm definitely all for Not Famous Names being chosen. But oh. I do feel that the casting people feel that if they don't pick someone young then Youth Culture will despise it, and I don't think they're necessarily correct.

Still, quite clearly I will watch it avidly anyway :)
