Being Human-thoughts
Feb. 8th, 2009 09:56 pmIt's one of the best things on at the moment, so I'll certainly keep watching. If the rest of the world isn't showing it, I'm not really surprised. Lots and lots of sex! :) There's even a certain amount of slashiness, but done in a good way. I predict real gay characters at any time.
Am still enjoying it, but certain things are bugging me.
-that they had to have a more "acceptable" handsome vampire
-that they can't use a different sound-effect wolf howl - good god - haven't the BBC being using that for 50 years?
-that the character of the girl that Mitchell turned is so different to the pilot.
I do like the retro ghost from the 80's and the remembrance that the 80's was probably the last time for real music and philosophy. ymmv!!!

Date: 2009-02-08 10:30 pm (UTC)I didn't see the Annie death thing until it happened - and yes, last week was very good.
Most people, reading the precis might think it was a sitcom, but it's anything but. I like!

Date: 2009-02-09 12:42 pm (UTC)To me that's just sloppy. Real creativity happens when you work with the restrictions of a form rather than abandon them as inconvenient. I would LOVE to see vampires with counting obsessions that get into trouble if you throw seeds on the floor. The only writer I know who can handle that sort of thing is Tim Powers, who takes those odd quirks of traditional folklore and makes them an integral part of the magic of his writing. rather than throwing out the traditional stuff that makes writing harder, I feel it's more productive to work with it and see where it could take you.
I love vampires-but I feel that these days they are starting to become a little dull because of this. Having said that-I DO feel that Being Human is handling the whole 'junkie' side of vampires rather well.

It can still grip me and then suddenly make me laugh. It still has warmth and humanity. It is also, I feel, still one of the very best shows currently on TV.
I loved Gilbert the ghost btw. He like a ghost of my insides, my guts, because he haunted with my musical landscape and outlook from that time.
