It's one of the best things on at the moment, so I'll certainly keep watching. If the rest of the world isn't showing it, I'm not really surprised. Lots and lots of sex! :) There's even a certain amount of slashiness, but done in a good way. I predict real gay characters at any time.

Am still enjoying it, but certain things are bugging me.

-that they had to have a more "acceptable" handsome vampire

-that they can't use a different sound-effect wolf howl - good god - haven't the BBC being using that for 50 years?

-that the character of the girl that Mitchell turned is so different to the pilot.

I do like the retro ghost from the 80's and the remembrance that the 80's was probably the last time for real music and philosophy. ymmv!!!

Mr Lusi wants to know why vampires can walk around in sunlight. And I had my suspicions confirmed tonight regarding Annie's death, although I suppose it was really obvious. I did enjoy last week's very much.

They didn't really cover it in the pilot but it was a little more explained - Marshall had to wear almost entirely covered clothes and dark glasses. It weakens him hugely, but now it doesn't seem to matter so much.

I didn't see the Annie death thing until it happened - and yes, last week was very good.

Most people, reading the precis might think it was a sitcom, but it's anything but. I like!

I shall attempt not to spoil! I am liking - not loving - but it's one of the best things on at the mo, so am sticking with it.

I'm thinking of writing a letter to the BBC, in which I will call them lots of unflattering names, and tell them that it is in the best interests of international diplomacy for them to immediately cave-in to my post-adolescent need for instant gratification.

"Later this year", indeed! Hmph!

I am inclined to agree. The pilot was pretty much perfect as is, but they seem to have made sacrifices and tried to be a bit more a 'beautiful people' show (cf. Torchwood/Dr.Who, Hex and Demons et al). I am fed up with the beautiful people on TV. I expect from American shows, but NOT from British ones. I want to see fantastic visions of imagination filled with people with jacked up smiles and everyday ordinariness because that is what we have always done best. To me, the pilot was uniquely British, and the show itself has lost some of that. Not all-it still 'has it', but some of it worked very well indeed has gone.
Despite this, I am still enjoying it. The writing is superb, its still quirky and British enough, it still has charm. It can still grip me and then suddenly make me laugh. It still has warmth and humanity. It is also, I feel, still one of the very best shows currently on TV.

I loved Gilbert the ghost btw. He like a ghost of my insides, my guts, because he haunted with my musical landscape and outlook from that time.

All vampires seem to be able to walk around in sunlight these days because its much easier to film... *sigh*

Or maybe they're wearing factor 100 sun cream.

Maybe-but I think it's actually writers getting lazy with their vampires. They no longer seem to be vulnerable to things like wooden stakes, come out at day when they used to have to go all comatose in a coffin and obscure stuff like foxing them with running water and counting obsessions have just been completely ignored. Effectively a vampire is now just a person who drinks blood, lives for centuries and looks 'cool'.

To me that's just sloppy. Real creativity happens when you work with the restrictions of a form rather than abandon them as inconvenient. I would LOVE to see vampires with counting obsessions that get into trouble if you throw seeds on the floor. The only writer I know who can handle that sort of thing is Tim Powers, who takes those odd quirks of traditional folklore and makes them an integral part of the magic of his writing. rather than throwing out the traditional stuff that makes writing harder, I feel it's more productive to work with it and see where it could take you.

I love vampires-but I feel that these days they are starting to become a little dull because of this. Having said that-I DO feel that Being Human is handling the whole 'junkie' side of vampires rather well.

They ran the first snippet of this as a teaser. I didn't know that the rest of the pilot was available. Thanks!
