Angel Series Four is going in all sorts of directions I wasn't expecting.

ARGH! Great idea - I mean - OMG - Jasmine!

But also....Including into the crapper scriptwise.

What, pray, was the brainwavey idea of making the script "Angel for Dummies"? 

It's bad enough to have "previously on Angel" still included on the DVD - (i mean... WHY?) but then to have this level of imbecility in the script....

Get this. It seems that Charles Gunn has had a lobotomy and that no-one else has been watching the series AT ALL.

Gunn: "Two vampires hook up, and—for the only time in vamp history—have a kid, our boy Connor. Then Connor grows up, knocks it out with Cordelia, a part-demon former higher-being. And—quick as you can say "Easy Bake Oven"—there's a gigantic bun in hers."

Oh - don't take my word for it. Read the rest of the script. If you don't think it's pure "As you know, Bob," I'll.... I don't know. eat my cat. Where is the wit that Joss is famous for?  The best I can say is that most of this season is "fake Joss" - people attempting to emulate the quick genius quips that came with Buffy, Firefly and Dr Horrible and are failing MISERABLY.

I should have realised when Gwen had the surname RAIDEN. Those in the know will know what i mean. URGH.

Roll on series six, that's all I can say.

And while I'm having a major moan - what's going on with series' length in the UK. Hustle - six episodes? Demons - ditto. Torchwood - Five episodes over five nights.  Ditto Dr Who.

Is this the new "season"?  NOT GOOD ENOUGH THANK YOU.

Angel S4 consisted of truly alarming levels of WTF, if I'm remembering it properly.

And I'm with you on the far too few episodes of anything wagon -- you cannot keep us happy with five episodes a year!

If I am remembering right, this season was on during the last season of Buffy and Joss kinda abandoned Angel to give Buffy the finish he wanted. It was a very uneven season for Angel.

Oh and the last couple of eppys of Season four Angel goes with the last couple of eppys of Buffy and you had to watch both to see what happens. I can't remember if it makes sense to watch one without the other.

Joss has a habit of abandoning projects for newer, shinier ones. I mean, not abandoning abandoning, but pulling back from, to a degree. Which is why, IMO, the last few seasons of BtVS and AtS were mostly lame, and one of the reasons I'm kind of glad Firefly didn't get strung out. Though I'd have been happy with a whole season or two. O_o

IMO, Angel hit its peak in S3, and started going downhill as soon as Cordelia ascended.

S4 sucked majorly, though they pulled it back for S5, which was why it hurt so much when they were cancelled. I hated the whole Cordelia ascending/Jasmine storyline, and so, I think, did the cast: you can see it in their eyes, "WTF have they done to my character?!" Of course, Charisma's pregnancy was the spanner-in-the-works, but what they did was vindictive.

I'm pretty sure I quit watching Angel in S4, and didn't go back for years. It wasn't until I had a job that required me to be up at 4:00 am and I started catching reruns one station was whimsically airing at that time, that I saw the final season--which was good enough to make me forgive S4. But I'll say no more.
