The ARCs have gone out (near enough 200 of them, I heard) and I've got the first semi-review through.

"What do you call a Gay Bodice Ripper" by Brandon Burt at the Salt Lake City Weekly.

He hasn't finished it yet, so perhaps he'll post again when he has!

He quite likes the cover too.

(oh, and Mr Burt? It's a breeches ripper.)

ETA: He's received False Colors too, I love his comments

I agree with him, too-- yay for no Fabios! :D

(And damn, I'm looking forward to this!)

It is a small world - I do like his comments, particularly about False Colors. I hope he likes the books!

Honestly, congratulations. This is the sort of press you wanted for what you write, and I think it's great you're getting it. Your goals for the genre you want to help forge are getting there-- one mainstream review at a time. :)

Yay!

What your swarthy blacksmith ought to have are lots of tiny burn-scars and blisters on his manly pecs... that's why smiths wore leather aprons. I guess that would've been too much kink, eh?

I never thought of that - he could have photoshopped some dirt on him, at least!!

What is Salt Lake City Weekly? A gay publication? I didn't realize SLC had a gay community. Any chance these books will get reviewed by The Advocate or Out magazine? This must be so exciting for you! Congratulations.

This is exciting for all of us, I think. There will be people who never even heard of gay romance starting to talk about it. We get so used to being online that we forget there are still readers out there who aren't.

Yes, I was saying this yesterday, it's the same with his comments about "18th century rough trade" - we live in the Molly culture so often that we forget that people don't know anything about it, and are startled that blacksmiths did dress in frocks and call themselves "Princess Seraphina"!!

:)

I don't care what century you're talking about, a blacksmith letting out his Inner Princess is pretty startling.

I stand corrected - he was a butcher, which might be even more alarming!

Well, if he's got enough tulle in his tutu, he might pull it off.

I think the publisher is blanketing the press, they obviously have a large list! They are going to let us add publications too, as soon as they've sent them out. It's exciting and scary too!

And bless him, he had the good manners to come over to my "official website blog" (where I mirror most of the LJ posts) and make a comment. I won't care as much if he hates the book, at least he was polite about it.

Politeness is so underrated these days. And if only reviewers knew: it saves one from having a new orifice ripped by certain annoyed members of the writing fraternity. ^____^
