Had the call from the journalist - I'll be on the "Afternoon Delight" broadcast on Radio Yare on 1350 kHz AM (medium wave) or 222m metres in old money--on 3rd April at approx 3.15.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be an online feed - but there must be somewhere? Is anyone good at finding this stuff? Perhaps because it's AM and not FM.? Never mind - I'll scan the newspaper article in, anyway.

I'm up to date with the Temeraire books and found the last one, Victory of Eagles, the best one so far. Perhaps it's because Temeraire gets a proper POV and we see a lot more of the dragons' conversations and plans, and the simplistic, narcissistic, funny and clever way they speak and think. I just adore Iskeirka, the little horror--and poor Granby who has a terrible time with her. I've really warmed to Laurence--I understand him a lot more now--he's Hornblower in many ways, completely bound to his duty, and when he breaks it he is fatalistic about his proposed punishment. The way Novik leads us to the end of the book and where Laurence has to go makes a lot of sense. So yes - enjoyable. Not "I must go and buy these books enjoyable", but good for library books and i'm looking forward to the next one. I just want to turn Tem into a human, or Laurence into a dragon because their love affair is unutterably touching.

Don't even talk to me about SyFy. What morons. Way to sound like a cream cleaner. Siffy, cuts through nerds with a lemony scent.

Why is Heroes in B&W? I thought there was something wrong with my TV.

Oh and BTW, can someone explain to me what the blinkerty blink Heroes is all about now? It's utterly baffling.

Heroes doesn't have a plot or consistent characterisation any more; it's like the fics I wrote when I was 12, just vivid mental imagery strung together with the flimsiest of justification. Except with less really bad porn. (I write good porn. But not so much when I was 12.)

I just don't get it, it's like I've fallen asleep and missed four seasons or something - although I've not missed one episode.

Baffling.

I've heard much moanings and groanings about this show on my f/list as it progressed, and people were really rooting for it to begin with. "Jumped the shark over the high bar" is the sort of thing people were saying...

It was good at first - the first season was wonderful, but as so many things go, it went downhill

Heroes has rather lost the plot, but it's still an hour or so of light entertainment (to knit by, for me) for a Monday evening.

The bits in black and white tonight were the flashbacks that Matt was reading from Noah's mind.

Part of is that I should get off the PC and concentrate on it, but I'm so lost at the moment I just don't bother!

I don't watch Heroes (though my hubby does). I just wish more programming WAS produced in black & white. I thought it was way cool when Steven Soderberg shot "The Good German" in B&W and actually used old 1940s cameras and film stock to replicate the look of film noir from that era.

I agree with you , actually, it's a lovely medium when done right and this was very nicely photographed.

I gave up on Heroes this season. I hated to do it, as the show started out with such promise, and I still think season 1 was one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, but it seems to have totally lost its way.

I'd love to hear your radio broadcast - maybe someone with a digital voice recorder could record it and post it online?

I'll be getting bored with it next week I think, which is sad, because I loved the first couple of seasons.

I'm hoping that I'll able to get a digital copy.

Woohoo! Go you on the radio show :) Can you tape it, at all? Then you could convert it to a file you could put up on your website or something. (Andrew just said something involving sound cards and ripping media files, but I zoned out.)

I'm hoping they can give me a recording of it, I shall certainly ask the question!

I have no idea what the hell is going on with Heroes and really am ready to move on:( It had such promise and then it all fell apart.

I don't think they had a plan, and too many new characters?

Its funny, Lost manages to do the same thing and it works. However next season is the last for Lost, so maybe knowing when the show is ending is what helps them, they know the story they need to tell and the how much time they need.

and yay you for the radio interview.

I think I'll be dumping it soon, too. They definitely need a PLOT.

I can't find one - it's very small potatoes, a local station - but perhaps I can get a transcript or a recording of it to upload. I've been thinking about doing a reading and putting it up on my site, as I can't get to any conferences. I might as well use "unlimited bandwidth" as I'm paying for it!!

I haven't watched Heroes since about two-thirds through the first season, so I'm no use to you there--but speaking of television, I watched Being Human over the weekend and thought I should give you credit (and thank you), as you were the only person I know who not only recommended it but actually gave me an idea what it was about. I'm going to have some friends over in the near future to watch the entire thing in one sitting, as now I want to talk about it.

Is Victory of Eagles the book that follows Empire of Ivory? I've read up to that point, and hadn't heard of the latest book. Good point about the 'Horatio Hornblower' similarity! What part of the world are Laurence & Temaire in for this installment? I've found their world travel locations quite interesting so far.

They are back in England for Victory of Eagles, and there are "consequences" for what Laurence did in Empire of Ivory - e.g. at the end, with the mushrooms. The name of the book (hate to spoil) should give you a hint as to what happens, let me say that history goes completely kablooie at this point and something happens to England that hasn't happened since 1066.

It's quite the best book so far imo - I liked Empire of Ivory too, because it was very AU in a King Solomon's Mines sort of way.

The Hornblower similarity really comes out in VoE - I believe that the choices Laurence makes in that book are exactly the choices that Hornblower would have made.
