LJ Cuts

I think many people (me too, sometimes) forget that other people work, or have families and don’t think when posting. It seems to have got worse recently and time and again I’ve thought to myself “thank GOD I’m not a work!!” when I’ve seen a practically naked (or even completely, no holds barred naked) man on my flist that’s not behind a cut.  Plus you know, some people are still on dial up.

So Come on people – some people are also closet M/M fans – they might have parents that don’t know their interests, or they may have young children who could blunder into a room – have a little common sense eh? Respect your flist.

I've had that. Oh dear I've had that. Now that we had a reshuffling of the desks in the office, I have a straight male sitting right behind me, able to see my screen. I'll surf LJ much more carefully now.

Thank you.

I work from home, but I'm super conscious about stuff like that. Discretion is everything in my job, after all.

Yes. Very selfish. I just have to defriend people like that, cannot take the risk.

btw - loving the layout.

And icons too. I work in the living room and have husband and children coming up to talk to me on a regular basis. And while my husband is open minded and I'm not bringing my children up to be prudes either, there are still some icons floating around that push the boundaries of what any of them want to see.

Sorry I didn't think on that, I always try to let out of cut uncompromising pics, but probably my perception is altered by the fact that I'm alone in my space. I updated the post. Elisa

I had to set a policy on icons in comments in my LJ, and I reserve the right to screen comments with icons that violate my policy.

I'm working in an office at home, so the content is not a problem - but I would sure appreciate it if folks would put big photo layouts, long excerpts, and detailed reviews under an lj-cut. I'll probably read it, but when I'm scanning to see what folks are doing, it takes forever for teh pretteh to load.

ELISA!!

Are you all right? Haven't had time to look at a map of Italy - I hope you're away from teh quake zone and safe!

Yes Lee, I posted on my LJ to let people know that I'm not in the zone involved by the earthquake. I live in the North, the earthquake was in the South, but it was pretty bad, the worst in the last years. Elisa

I'm partially agreed with you, for example I put excerpts under a cut, since they are not really my "work" and I know that if people want to read it, will click on the cut. On the pictures, I'm improving, I always try to not post more than 3 (sometime even less) and always of regular dimension (no more than 400 px width). All other bigger posts I relegated on my other blog, and only post a link and a very small image on LJ: if people want to see bigger images, covers and similar, have to click on the link... But said that, I always feel sad when I post something under a cut, because I really have the impression that people will not see it and the risk it's plagiarised is bigger. Elisa

Hadn't gotten down to your LJ yet. Whew!

Oh, I didn't mean yours. Your LJ is more like a gallery, and I always expect to see the pretty boys. Even the big stuff doesn't usually bother me--it's just that for a couple of days some of my f'list have been doing Big Posts and it was on my mind.

First of all, sorry Erastes if we are using you LJ to chat! ;-)

Yes I know Lee you weren't referring to me in particular, I was only trying to understand if I'm right in what I'm doing with my LJ or not ;-) I have quite a "square" mind, and I'm the first to cring when I see a post with bigger images that makes my layout looks strange (even if it's the friend page layout). I have not really problem with connection, both in office than at home, and not really problem with the content of the images... mine is more a practical statement.

For example, those posts that are ALL under a cut... most of the time I don't read them, since they don't catch my eyes ;-)

I must not be reading the right flist, then! :-) But, yes, since I read this at work (nekkid men BAD there) and at home (small children always around), I definitely need the cut for anything at all, ah, interesting.

It seems to have got worse recently

I agree with you absolutely and am very sorry for that. As you've experienced, I was terribly shocked when I found a picture of a naked boy on my flist without being hidden behind a cut.

M/M fangrils are simply enjoying those pictures? I have no idea. I doubted even the sanity of the man who has posted this sort of image (he is not in my flists, but regarded as a m/m fan).
As Alex Beecroft said, the same to icons.

A bit of sensitivity, please :(

My 10 year old son commonly sneaks up behind me to read over my shoulder, so yeah. I have a friend I adore who uses a vagina as a icon and I often worry about him seeing it when he's still at the awkward "no mom I don't really want to know what sex is" age.

I have one serial offender with some icons featuring (drawn) rimming... Each time I see it, I think: "Must defriend!" then chide myself for prudery (but srsly, I sometimes munch me morning toast whilst perusing f-list - I don't consider myself a prude, but do not even wish to consider rimming at 7.00 am...). Then my mind moves on and so I don't defriend. However if I could get lj at work (it's blocked by our IT dept), she'd be gone in a heartbeat.

Saw another (photographed) rimming icon yesterday, and frankly wish the owners of such would die in a fire. It's just ignorant fucktardery.

That's a very good idea! Why did I not think of that? I might steal it now you've suggested it, though.

If I surf at work, I usually do so with the images off. Kinda sucks to have to do that, but yeah otherwise I've had nekkid men pics pop up at inopportune times.

Waya was my little sweetheart.. lost her in February to kidney failure, at 16.5 years. We got dog-deprivation twitchy about a month later and went to a couple of rescues. New pup pic at

She's a sweetie pie! I know what you mean - lost my old girl four years ago. I have two darling babies now, but there's hardly a day goes by when I don't think about my old girl. :)

I always (I hope!) put graphic images under a cut, with NWS warnings in place, for people reading at work or in a family situation because I know what it's like to be inadvertently caught scanning hardcore porn.

I really should use filters more, as I belong to a few communities that don't seem to feel the need to make posters use lj-cut tags. Blog feeds can also be a problem- Jason Curious for e.g.

Sometimes I forget about icons and probably use risque ones where I shouldn't- will try harder not to.

It's difficult, though, because I know how easy it is to scroll right by posts with cuts if you're checking the FL in a hurry. Sometimes you want to grab people's attention because you have something really hot to share- in those cases I try to find a nice romantic smooch or whatever, with no nudity etc. to tempt the clicky-click.
