Good for you, Vermont.

Hmmm. Lovefilm rents out gay adult movies.  I think that’s a justifiable “research” tax write off, don’t you?  More so that our Jacqui Smith, anyway, eh? *rents*  Well, I have to watch something now I’ve finished with Angel.  Please recommend me something you’d think I’d really enjoy? There’s a huge lack of gay historical films, sadly. Lovefilm say “for gay men” – well tough. Rent me your gay porn! Or else!

I’m bidding on a nice little colour laser printer which is (at the moment) nicely cheap because it’s “pick up only” – and it’s pick up from 10 miles away, so I hope I get it. The printer I have is very frustrating, won’t feed the paper properly and the cartridges cost a fortune. typically I just bought some refill ink, so I’ll offer them up here if I get the printer.

Don’t forget to pop over and discuss anything with me on Desert Island Keepers.

Chris Smith finished her 15th century Florentine (gay historical) novel yesterday. I’m so proud of her. The worst battle for any novelist is actually finishing and it’s been an interesting ride seeing another person go through that experience. The highs (seeing her getting excited about plot and characterisation, and finishing!) the lows (the panic here and there) and the damned hard work and dedication needed to get it done was almost unnerving to watch.  Now of course, life just gets harder, as she’s not only got to edit and sell it, but write something else! It’s a good novel too, and I’m sure it will sell—1497 was a very turbulent time in Florence and to set that story there was a roller coaster ride.

What I like about this moment in time, is that there is so much yet to be explored, historical stories with gay characters number in such a limited number, a couple of hundred, perhaps, tops. With het historicals there must be a book for every single year in recorded history (ok, probably not, but you know what I mean) and yet when I think of "when to write next" my head nearly explodes with possibilities. This era is not one I could have ever chosen, but CS does it well imho. I think you'll enjoy it, it's not a "romance" just a story of guys who like guys in a town where - after it being pretty much accepted - it suddenly becomes damned dangerous.

Ok, I'll stop rambling now. Too much caffeine!

I didn't like to ask you outright, but I was hoping that was what you saying.

I certainly will, she's a lucky girl to have someone ready to read it already.

Steve, you're too kind, it is sundry drivel at the moment and current thoughts are "OMG OMG OMG EDITING!!!!" After that I'll see if I feel it is ready to inflict on the unsuspecting world.

I'm not too sure how kindly people are going to take to some of it - it gets pretty violence-graphic at times. And it's pretty tame from a sex POV, not much all, more historical than shagging. And how on earthy I managed to do that with a threesome (yes, which was odd even for those times) is completely beyond me!

Plus! Must draw up plans! And sketch faces! And make sure that my miraculous teleporting people do not zoom up and down stairs on clouds of fairy dust!

AND I MUST TAKE OUT EVER SINGLE REFERENCE TO BEING POSSESSED BY SANTA. ERASTES!!!! *smites*

Well, please do know that I have confidence in Erastes' opinion - if she compliments it, then it's certainly a book I'd consider for Lethe. Seriously.

You know what I want? A really good gay historical set in the Egypt of the Pharaohs. I've read romances, I've read fanfic, I've read detective stories, but only one short gay historical, and that one didn't impress me much.

I'm not capable of writing it (lack of knowledge for one thing) but I would love that so, so much.

Which one did you read? Check out the review site Speak Its Name - there's lots of reviews there, and a list of just about every gay historical available.

I think there might be one pharoah one, but I haven't reviewed it, so can't say what it's like. Someone is bound to do one at some point, and I hope they do!

The one I've read is the one you have listed, A Warrior's Hope by Sabrina Luna. It wasn't badly written, but it was too short to allow me to really care about the characters.
