Actually, the same thing happened last night on Amazon UK, see my post here: http://marquesate.wordpress.com/2009/04/12/definition-amazon-rank/

I am really floored over this and I know it started back in Feb....and this company has always struck me as a liberal progressive company. This story has made the LA Times and Publisher's Weekly.

Also I have to wonder at the timing of this exploding when it did, over a holiday weekend..so Amazon had a small staff and not able to prevent this mess. It makes no sense for Amazon to decide to do this and they are everywhere in terms of what they sell. It makes me angry and just WTF? at them.

Also children's books, bios, and classics really aren't "adult". Oy.

One could say "it's a holiday weekend" or one could say "it coincides with the release of the first mainstream m/m paperbacks.

Looks like it is turning around though. Perry Moore's Hero got its rank back, as did King and King.

It seems to be slowly happening. Alex Beecroft and Mark Probst are back, not mine yet.

You forgot two steps following this:

- Post to own LJ and show all your friends.
- Never buy anything from Amazon EVER again.

OMFG: I'm not gay, but if THIS is their majority market, I'm not one of those people.

I'm actually going to contact Fishpond and Book Depository (where I've gotten your stuff-- YAY for Transgressions: mine's on pre-order!!!) and tell them about this and say a) "Thankyou for NOT being homophobic douchebags" and b) "If you pull anything LIKE this, there goes my support of your business."

TLABooks.com and Queerbooks.com are excellent options for buying gay titles.

Ooh, thankyou. :)

I'm always on the lookout for places to buy books online. :) I hope their postage rates to Australia are good! :D

(I live in an area where getting anything beyond Shane Warne's Guide to Parenting and Schappelle Corby's Lose 10 Kilos in Two Weeks Diet is actually something of a challenge and requires a trip planned to the city. And I live in Melbourne, which, to my knowledge, is a fairly big and diverse place: yet I still rely on online orders for most of my bookshopping. I can only imagine what it's like for people who live in more remote places.)

They won't be able to withstand the adverse publicity. They'll HAVE to retrench.

Like someone pointed out on my post about this (yeah, I passed it on to my Flist), try something like "queer" or "gay sex."

The term "homosexuality" is often used by bigots in an "othering" sense, I've noticed. (That said, I'm not at ALL saying Amazon is in the right here or that this isn't fucking awful.)

That's utterly disgusting. How can they possibly justify doing that? Even in America?

Don't know whether it's legit, but a troll has claimed responsibility for diddling Amazon, with a pretty credible (to this technofeeb) explanation of how he did it.

Regarding the religious books that come up on an Amazon search for "homosexuality", I noticed that two of the top five are actually about acceptance and inclusion of gays in religion. I knew that _For the Bible Tells Me So_ must be in that category, since Gene Robinson, one of the authors, is the ultra controversial openly gay Episcopal Archbishop of New Hampshire. (So who or what ever has been doing this has no real clue about the content of the books.)

I doubt it's true. It's been going on for three months. This idiot is just trying to get credit for something he didn't do to make himself feel important.
