Could someone give THIS homophobe a kick in the arse from me, will you please?

Never heard of him, and will never buy his books.

(updated as the convention i mentioned has already happened - sorry for not checking!)

If anyone is going to Anticipation, the 67th World Science Fiction Convention, in Canada

From the link you provide:

Anticipation was held in Montréal, Quebec, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from August 6th - 10th, 2009.

So I am a little baffled here.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] smallship1 pointed me at this reply to John Wright. It's long, but worth reading to the end.

What a loon. People like that aren't even worth arguing with, they're best ignored, like a toddler throwing a tantrum. They're just doing it for attention.

I personally love it when someone who's got views like this, or is a racist, or anti-semite or whatever else, comes out and says it. That way I know who the enemy is. When politicians do it is best, since they usually then try to apologise afterwards, and I'm all "yeah, sure I really believe that aplogy." Hah.

What a complete ass. Fools like that never cease to amaze me. I don't know how popular his books were before, but I imagine it'll drop after that crazy rant.

I suppose the best thing to do is complain to LJ, but there's no law against being an ass. Pity.

You know, you're the third person on my meagre friendslist to post about him. I'd never heard of him before.

Do we really want to give him that much free publicity?

Yammerheads using this opportunity to express hatred and contempt for the Christ and His Church Aw, jeez - he's a fundie nutbar. How unsurprising... o_O

He used to be an atheist, too: I think he thinks he's making up for lost time by being this nutsy and overzealous about it now. :(

Several people have already kicked him, both in their own blogs and in comments to his. It's pointless - this guy is not going to be reached, and I think the best thing to do is just ignore him. Linking to what he says is fine, as it educates potential readers just what their money would be supporting if they bought his books, but replying is a waste of effort.

oh - i didn't mean reply to him - i wanted someone to kick him in the arse if they saw him at the convention - but it was last week, so it's too late.

I find it amusing that he listed why he hadn't deigned to reply to dissenters. One of the reasons was that they were arguing from emotion and couldn't be reached with rational responses, but since when is his argument any different? He likens homosexuality to pedophilia, etc. and says it's wrong and evil, with no logical reason for saying so.

Well, except for God says so in his religion, which couldn't be said to be the most rational / logical argument (no offense to all the religious people out there who aren't raging hatemongers).

Typical of that type. "It's WRONG but i don't have to explain to YOU why it is."

I do have to agree with him that Syfy has to be one of the stupidest intentional misspellings I've ever seen.

Agreed. SyFy looks like a weird smooshed pairing name. Or a corporation's head offices ("the SyFy Towers in SF"). Or a deodorant.

I merely find him, in his very own words 'an abomination worthy of no comment'.

He responded positively to my answer to him, and he responded to the response indicated above by deleted his post altogether. Since then, he has publicly kicked himself thoroughly for the crime of arrogance (which needed doing) - and he has apologized for disrespecting one man's lesbian mother.

Which doesn't mean that he has altered his opinion; it merely means that he has seen his arrogance for the sin it absolutely was.

Oh, him. He switched off his comments not long after I pointed out that I only became aware of him while looking for Phoenix Wright slashfiction. :) By the time I'd thought to go back and give him some links to pieces which totally disputed his "OMG! Depraved homosex!" and some pretty saucy hetfic whih was way more depraved, he'd deleted everyone's comments and turned 'em off.

Someone made a great response to him which got Metaquoted, though. :)

(3) Notifications of Boycott. To the one or two readers who promised never to buy my books because I came to certain conclusions in logic you do not share, allow me to point out that most of my books were written before my conversion to Christianity, and at least one was written before my disillusionment with the Sexual Liberation Movement. So, for those of you who buy books for the sake of ideological purity rather than for entertainment value, I suggest you discover which is which, and plan your purchases accordingly.

He's also a liar: I think I was the fourth person to say I would never buy his books, and who knows how many people said it after me, but it was before someone told him he'd been metaquoted.

Furthermore, a friend of mine commented on my LJ when I posted about him that he's got some seriously squicky anti-women issues going on, too, so I'm doubting I'd find his work at all "entertaining" anyway. And even if I did, I can still theoretically enjoy his work in a public library or illegally. Because, seriously, why throw money at someone like him? All book sales are going to do is inflate his ego even more and probably get him spouting more vitriol.
