I'm personally kind of dubious about the apology thing. Gordon Brown didn't persecute Alan Turing. I don't see that it achieves much for him or the current government to issue an apology for something they didn't do, and wouldn't do - at least, not for the same reasons any more! Issuing retroactive pardons for example, clearing someone's name, fair enough.

But an apology from anyone other than the person or people who actually did that thing doesn't seem like it can have much meaning to it.

Though frankly, I'm dubious about most apologies! Especially from politicians, which usually mean "I'm very, very sorry - that I got caught."
