For me, it was when I saw a vid of him doing an interview about Battlestar. To this day watching episodes of the UK Law and Orer makes me go BWUH.

Only the one eppy and it was the first one of this year's new season so you may not have seen it yet.

Has he played an American? *is clueless*

Well, he played a non-brit-accented character on Battlestar Galactica (Apollo spoke with a "normal" accent to my ears, i.e., non-Brit)

I was surprised, too. I thought YOU were a Brit! Can you hear his accent slipping?

I am a Brit - well, English, I prefer that.

No, his accent sounds perfect to me, but then I suck at telling whether accents are any good or not.

That's why his southern accent is the best and most consistent on the show. There are apparently linguistic similarities between southern US dialects and native British that makes it easier for the English to fake it and sound authentic.

English actress Vivien Leigh won two Best Actress Oscars for playing souther belles (Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind" and Blanche DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire"). Pretty much every famous Hollywood actress working at the time GWTW was being cast either auditioned for or expressed interest in the part of Scarlett. Producer David O. Selznik claimed that what tipped the scales heavily in Vivien Leigh's favor was her flawless, consistent accent.

So, nope - I'm not surprised!

That's interesting - I did know about Leigh of course, but didn't know that linguistically it was easiest. It's the only accent I can do, so I should have realised this!

And he wouldn't mind a bit of hot two guy action with Eric!
Hahahhahha!
(Sorry, I don't think there are spoilers? But I don't know how far you've seen. Do you know about Eric already?)

I do - yes, I watched all of series 2 on STC, so that's ok!

:)

woot! I don't blame him either - Eric is to die for. Literally.

I( knew he was a Brit cus he was listed recently on a (lengthy) list of our countrymen/women working on US TV shows- apparently we're cheap and undemanding-, but I didn't know he is in BSG! Does he appear before S3 (that's where I am)?

From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
I have no idea - didn't know he was in BSG either!

I lost the thread of whether you were talking about Jamie Bamber or Stephen Moyer, both of whom I adore and am a fan and fanfic writer of BSG and TrueBlood. Also wrote slash with both of their characters (not together). JB played Apollo every season on BSG, and is a main character, Matt Devlin, on the British version of Law and Order, which has had its first season only. You might be interested to know that Jamie Bamber was on the cover of "Out" magazine a couple years ago . . . the first straight actor to do such a thing, I believe. He did a rather famous towel scene in BSG where he was nude and nearly dropped his towel. The towel was later auctioned for some crazy amount. Needless to say, he is in fabulous shape, or was then.

Stephen Moyer, or Bill, is engaged in true life to the person who plays Sookie, and they met on the set of TrueBlood. I believe the fellow who plays her brother, Ryan, is either British or Australian.

I love those Brits.

How could I forget this? Bamber also played Archie on the Hornblower series. Much slash fanfiction has been written about hero Hornblower and his "very dear" friend, Archie.
