damn you RSS feeds, why are you never working?

I wondered what was wrong with my flist this morning, and then suddenly realised I’m getting no feeds. BAH!!

I’ve just been writing a review of “Fellow Travellers” by T.C. Worsley for Speak Its Name  (review will go up on 25th, not there yet, I’m scheduling them for one a day, which is working out well, I think) and I was struck by the similarity to part of the plot (based on real people and real events) to Leavitt’s While England Sleeps.  And then I found this on Stephen Spender’s Wikipedia page:

Spender sued author David Leavitt for allegedly using his relationship with "Jimmy Younger" in Leavitt's While England Sleeps in 1994. The case was settled out of court with Leavitt removing certain portions from his text.

RSS tends to be very wonky. :/ (I have a few of LJ's RSS feeds on my other journal, but for the most part read off-LJ blogs through Google Reader, just as a data point.) For months I wasn't getting anything at all from Steve Barnes's blog, despite having cancelled and resubscribed a couple of times. I got into the habit of going over and reading by hand every now and then, when suddenly RSS dumped a couple of months' worth on me all at once. Note that this was not all the posts that RSS had missed. No clue what was going on there. And periodically I'll miss a few days or a week or two of another blog, then get a bunch all at one time, although nothing's ever been as bad as it was with Steve's blog.

No clue. Despite the annoyance, RSS is still the easiest way to read blogs, and I rarely read any off-LJ blogs with any regularity which aren't on RSS feed.
