I felt cold last night, so went to bed – soon found out I wasn’t “cold” but I had a chill/water infection/temperature.  Not pleasant with your teeth chattering like castanets! Thank goodness for furry moggies.

Better today though, thank you!

Thanks to Gehayi for this link from the wonderful Slap Upside The Head.

“Anti-Gay Lobby gets its knickers in a twist of gay content in video game.”

I find it amazing that “anti-gay lobbies” are allowed to lobby really. They wouldn’t be allowed to do it here, it’s an offence.  America should enter the 20th century, let alone the 21st. Why don’t these arseholes move to Uganda?

However, that’s the easiest way to get me to buy a game, even if I know it’s a game I’m going to suck at most royally. I want to be a bisexual elf.  And you know what?  I think I always HAVE wanted to be a bisexual elf.

And The Sims has had the capacity to have gay couples for years.  What’s wrong with these people?  It’s ok to stab someone through the face and get their blood all over you, but it’s not ok to kiss someone?  I worry, sometimes.

What I found highly amusing was this paragraph about one of these lobbies warning about Army of Two by Electronic Arts::

Although never spoken of, undertones of homosexuality are present. Weaponry in the game can be decorated to be anything from diamond encrusted to gold plated. You share a parachute, and the riot shield system allows one player to use a shield or car door as portable cover while the other cuddles up close behind and dispenses “lead” from his “iron.”

Can we say “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense” people?  No, I didn’t think they could. I’m granting them with far too much intelligence.

Also there's this Dr Who ident on the BBC at the moment which makes me smile every time. Enjoy!

Don't forget Bully. What I LOVED about that was that Jimmy's bisexuality was potential-- it wasn't like they were trying to be controversial or anything; Jimmy could kiss girls, and he could kiss some of the boys too. No big deal was made about it (and homophobic bullying was shown to be stupid and pointless. One of the boys he could kiss actually went around using homophobic insults... I always thought that was very subtle and clever of RockStar). I just wonder how it'd be to be a high school kid and feeling "different" and then seeing that sort of stuff in a videogame.

Then there's Fable 2 where your character can marry people of the same sex, sleep with them, and all the rest of it. Again, no big deal is made about this: it's just a norm of life in that 'verse.

I think I've seen the article of which you speak. It was what made me buy Army Of Two for myself. I'd never even heard of the game up until then. :)

I'm sad that they left out all the seriously massive subtext in the Phoenix Wright games, though. Paranoid conservatives: UR DOIN IT RONG. (Maybe they weren't playing with DSes.)

YES! That was them!

I so fail at Timothy Plan. (And I'm now going to make sure at least one of my novels contains a gay porn star named Timothy Plan, too.)

If you are concerned with the moral issues (abortion, pörnography, anti-family entertainment, non-married lifestyles, alcohol, tobacco and gambling) that are destroying children and families you have come to the right place.

Pro-choice, unmarried mother of two who smokes, drinks, writes smutfic about gay lawyers and watches TV shows that are on when my kids should be in bed. My family ain't destroyed, though, and neither are my kids. Maybe if I took up gambling, then everything would go to shit in my household.

LOL! Timothy Plan! That's so brilliant - yes, please put him in a story.

Exactly-Bully was brilliant--and as you say, there was no big deal about the kissing--and you had to find it out by accident.

There's far too few gay characters in games--as there still are far few people of colour but it seems to be changing slowly slowly...

They'd do better protesting Virgin Mobile Canada's new ad campaign (http://www.marketingmag.ca/english/news/marketer/article.jsp?content=20091203_150055_8228). It'll just be there, unlike a video game you have to voluntarily buy and play.

I know! I'm wondering where they're using it, because I keep seeing the female angel ad everywhere

I've made male Sims kiss for years. Hah.

I also want the new Doctor to come on...I have decided he is strangely attractive...weird...

exactly-I've only played Sims One, but my gay couple set up home together and when I could get them in the mood they would romp away in their Love Bed (which vibrated) - however they were too moody a lot of the time...

He is very cute! I am looking forward to the Christmas one, muchly.

Oh, you win big points for use of “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense” in an argument. That pwns almost anything they could bring against it :)

*giggles*

I always knew the lion and unicorn were getting it on, too - far too much aggression for just hate.

But seriously - using a door as a shield is homosexual? Sharing a parachute is homosexual? Next they'll be telling me that Assassin's Creed is one big gay fest because the protagonist goes sticking hard things into men at every opportunity.

*boggles and giggles at the same time*

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that the people you would use that argument on would actually understand what you were saying. Idiocy precludes a breadth of mind.

It's clear that Freud didn't uncover anything that the great mass of people didn't already instinctively know. What a shame we never developed weapons to kill people by enfolding them (the way an octopus does). Then maybe women would get a bit more respect.

Oh, my freakin' ghod.

If only we could convince these nutjobs that guns are phallic, shooting them is masturbation, and pointing them at other people is sodomy. Then we could turn them loose on the NRA nutjobs and let them lobby each other into oblivion.

They have anti-gay lobbies????
Here, that's known as hate speech and is prohibited by the constitution.
Wow.
How about an anti-fundie-asshole lobby? Losers get set adrift on ice pans to be eaten by polar bears.

Sorry to hear you're poorly! *hugs* :)

I suppose the Americans see it as "free speech" but these people don't seem to realise the difference between "incitement to hatred" and free speech. As you say, it's illegal. I'm just baffled.

Yes, I did some digging into the Canadian laws. It's illegal here for anyone to spread messages of homophobia and hate. Unless they're clergy. In which case they're exempt from those laws.

Canada. It's a strange place, but it seems to work anyways ;p

I have no desire whatsoever to buy any videogames, because I am quite capable of wasting my time without them. But this almost makes me want to buy it.

The whole argument is that religious hatred is part of their "culture." Yeah, right. You can call a petri dish of Staphylococcus aureus a "culture," too, but it still ain't healthy.
