Am so angry with Atonement I can hardly think straight.  Beautiful film, entirely watchable but fuck me - what a sick sick little girl and she didn't get any better as she got older.  Should have been called Atonement--ur doin' it rong.

Unless I've entirely missed the point and the title was completely ironic.

I read about it at the time and thought "Well, she's a bitch and that sucks."

I watched Atonement twice and I completely hate the little sis. She's sick! But I believe the title refers to her book being the Atonement.

Oh, she is, isn't she? And I thought the young actress was positively creepy in that role.

I do think it's a gorgeous film (and I want that green dress so much.)

You might enjoy this--one of the headers is "Kiera Knightly needs a meal."

To be honest, I think Atonement is completely overrated. Almost everybody seems to be pissing themselves with how sophisticated it is; I'm sorry, it's so in love with itself and how supposedly deep it is that it makes death by drowning look aesthetic, which is just plain offensive and dumb.

That said, the little sister was a stupid kid. She didn't make Robbie go to war and she didn't throw the bomb that destroyed the tube station. I'm so sick of her being named The Root Of All Evil And If She Had Not Existed (TM). But people seem prone to this sort of thing, happens with dictators all the time.

*huffs*

Sorry, no offense. It's not you, it's that movie. I truly truly HATE it.

Oh, no I agree with you- beautiful photography, but hugely "I'm photographing this in a way that I'm going to win an oscar" which annoyed me hugely. I'll be posting why it infuriated me so much later today.

And who has a fountain ten foot deep? That's ludicrous from the very start.

Any why on earth did she have to fill a vase with water from a well half a mile away in the garden? Or even do it herself?

Beautiful to look at but very flawed. I'll have to read the book now to see if the same idiocy exists. Yes, the dress was lovely, but I don't fancy going somewhere like Belsen to get that figure.

It's so not, though - more thoughts later today!

Really enjoyed your longer write-up, and the book is extremely interesting so I'd recommend it if you feel up to dealing with these rather infurating characters for longer. ;)

And, oy, Keira Knightley's collarbones deserved a credit on their own since they were clearly playing a starring role...
