Or to Bill Oddie and his ilk – Long Tailed Tits. They are back! They were all over the hanging food on the tree this morning – it always amazes me how pretty they are.

this isn’t my photo btw, but it could well be, as that’s what they were attacking this morning, the peanut cage.

I'm reading the Book Thief by Markus Zusak and for reasons unknown to me I keep thinking you'll love it
it's not a gay novel, it's about a teenage girl in nazi germany but it is stupendous and I want to sing about it on the hill, unfortunately most of the people that come to me for book recs want the trash i read as well, this one i read on the if shit goes in shit comes out plan but it is really good (the plan, ie stop reading shite) and I just know you'll love it...

Awww, I wish we had some! Walter is currently looking in the window from the bottom of the garden and thinking 'Are you coming out to fill up the seed tray?'

Roman/Greekness>>> LOL. Even my mythical mind would know to do that.

He's probably feeling left out that you scoffed all the curry.

LOL. I've never seen him do that but I would imagine he'd enjoy a little rice. He's still sitting there.

I had about twelve longtails visiting my bird table last spring, so I hope they'll come back too. I wonder what they do the remainder of the year?

I know - it's funny isn't it? They just appear, scoff for a minute or two, then they are gone.

SO PRETTY!!!

They are a lot pinker than that photo shows - pink never seems a normal colour for a british bird, somehow!

Or just combine them. I'm thinking Zupiter makes a grand start. Hercury? Mares? Peptune? Minena? Aphrodenus? Pludes?

Minena? Aphrodenus?

I must say I'm a bit surprised that I haven't yet met a couple of little African American girls with these names.

We saw a flock of long-tails while we were out on a little walk near Swansea over Christmas. I wish they'd come to my garden! All I get is blue tits and the occasional great tit.

And I'm not expecting them to come much now, as next door have hacked down *entirely* the rambling rose bushes that the tits and sparrows liked to hide in before heading for the feeders. Granted, the rose was so rambling that it was up to the next floor, and I had to keep hacking it back so I could open my french windows, but it does mean now it's *all* gone that as there's nowhere for the little birdies to rest and look at things, they may not come much any more.

That's a shame, can you not put something up? I have a dead tree in my garden where they perch before the feeders, but anything will do. Might be they'll adapt - I hope so.

The nearest trees are two or three gardens away now; and my garden is far too small for trees, apart from a) bonsai oak trees, yes really, and b) a columnar pear tree, which by its very nature doesn't have branches... The blackbirds, starlings and pigeons seem to have taken OK to the scaffolding that's being put up to deal with the gutters - but obviously when there are workmen around, the birds won't come! And I don't think the smaller birds would like it much. I'll just have to see what happens.

There are the remains of the raspberry/blackberry bushes, but at this time of year they've been cut back hard, and also they're underneath the scaffolding. It'll all be better in spring and when the *$&*^%* scaffold has gone!

We don't have any tits that colorful over here. The ones which came to the feeder at my apartment when I lived in Georgia were all grey. They would arrive in a little mob that we finally started calling the 'titmouse maffia.' They ran all the other birds off every time they showed up and wouldn't let any of the other birds near the feeder until they were done, hence the nickname.

Yes but you have cardinals and hummingbirds!!!

These little pink things are pretty unsual, most of our birds are quite drab.

Here in Colorado we have western bluebirds, though I've only seen one. There were a lot of cardinals eating from the feeder at my last apartment here, but I see nothing but sparrows and crows at this apartment.

I need to move somewhere that I can hang a feeder again. This complex does not lend itself to bird feeding or plants in the windows.

YAY! for the pink mice! I keep trying to get a decent pic of my twittering flash mob, but they all fly away as soon as I get close!
