A review site advertising for reviewers:

Reviewers- We are looking for a kinder gentler reviewer. If you can't say something nice, pass on the book. We do want honesty, however, there are nice ways to say what you want to say. I'm sure you understand what we are looking for

Ahm... so 'we want honesty, but not really?' It's pretty straightforward what they're looking for indeed ;).

I call those "review sites" "free book rackets". That's it.

Hmmmn pity the readers who part with hard-earned money only to discover the truth about those reviews. Sheesh. Talk about giving review sites a bad name!

I do agree that there are good ways to say bad things - but to completely ignore the bad... so wrong. Also the sites that never give less than a 3 stars.

If all the reviews are good, better, best - how can you really tell which ones are ACTUALLY good?

Reviewers- We are looking for a kinder gentler reviewer a reviewer who will praise every book that comes her way in the most sincere-sounding of terms. If you can't say something nice, pass on the book we're not interested. We don't want to deal with authors who feel their genius hasn't been appreciated. Especially since publishing is a very small field, and either we all know each other or we know someone who does know the author. We do want honesty, however, provided that honesty is flattering. If there are no nice ways to say what you want to say...well, we're not interested in saying that a book is bad, or even mediocre, even if it is. ESPECIALLY if it is. I'm sure you understand what we are looking for. Not reviewers who will notice poor writing, plotholes, weak characterization or plagiarism. No. We want cheerleaders.

There, fixed it for them.

Why don't they just have a recommendations site instead? That would make more sense to me. With recs then obviously you only, or mostly, say nice things. If something was a bit rubbish, then just don't rec it.

Or would that get the supply of free books cut off if some things get left off the site since nobody wants to recommend them?
