You all knew that cover wasn't serious didn't you? You were (mostly) so polite I worry sometimes that my humour is a little OTT.

I love reading unpublished books, and I feel very honoured when I’m asked to do so.  And today emphasised why I love reading them, not only because I see where the next good gay historical is coming from and can squee in Smug Mode – but also because I learn stuff I simply didn’t know.  This author uses the word “minion” – and I went to look it up to see if it' wasn’t hugely anachronistic and found that it actually means:

1501, "a favorite; a darling; a low dependant; one who pleases rather than benefits"

Isn’t that lovely?  So it was actually more of an insult than simply saying to one of Voldemort’s supporters “oh, yeah, you’re one of his minions” because it’s been corrupted into “supporter of evil overlord” in many respects but this suggests something much more insulting.  Like biting my thumb at you sir.  Me sir?  Yes, you, sir.

Ah. And here I am wearing my "Where are my Minions?" tee shirt today. The things you learn.

Now, all I have to do is figure out where they are and how to get them to be "favorites, darlings, low dependants who please me rather than benefit".... I love it!

I demand a tee shirt like that.

Or at least, one for Lucius-cat. He really needs one.

Cats don't need the t-shirt. That's tattooed on their auras

Minion also used to be used to imply, very strongly, catamite. Not just favourite, but sexual, um, toy - since it tended to be used as an insult to adults like, say, the Duke of Buckingham. So the worse insult for not implying sexual slave, who couldn't help it, but an adult independent man who has willingly submitted himself. Can you smell the testosterone and the gay-hating from here?

Would Lucius-cat like a Tshirt that just says "catamite"? You can explain the several puns to anyone who asks.

[edit: can't leave his name misspelled; he might scratch me.]

No - that would be wrong. under the strict rules of the term, he's not a catamite and would never be one!
