i'm really really struggling. I've given up on chapter 15, I've written the beginning and i've written the end but the middle - talk about DULL.

so i thought i'd just get on and do chapter 16. This is how far I got with THAT.

The sparks flew from the sword as he hunkered outside his tent in the grey morning mist, sharpening the gleaming blade. The sun had just risen, but it was swathed in fog, not strong enough yet to win the battle to burn off the miasma that hung over the encampment.

very pretty. NOW WHAT!!! it's supposed to be the dawn of Naseby and i'm TERRIFIED of having to write a full blown battle scene. Plus the fact this chapter opens a year after the last one ended, so I've got to do a lot of exposition....

I need a hug. *whimpers*

I've never written a battle scene (although I may have to for my 2YN novel) I would imagine it would be better to write it when you are really angry about something. Maybe you could skip that part for now (writing down "insert battle scene here") and come back to it when you are angry?

yes good idea. and anyway, i suppose its not as if he's watching the battle from a hilltop. If he's actually in the middle of it its a very different beastie - just panic and trying to stay alive i would imagine.

yeah, i'm a bit further along now - David's lover is looking at him and mulling over the last year in his head - nothing heavy just reflecting on how he's changed from an indolent charming youth to a lean grim killing machine.

As to the battle, i am giong to wimp out. He's going to annoy the Sargeant, and be told to guard the baggage train which will annoy him no end. but it'll get a bit of action coz the BT will be attacked.
